Is it MOT OK to convert one of the reversing lights, with a bit of transluscent red paint to a fog light. I know you have to have a 'tell tale' light inside, but are there any restrictions on the height and brightness of the thing/

The way I see it is that a 21W reversing light, coloured red, is just right. And you don't need 4 reversing lights. My car has an MOT from the garage that sold it to me, but no fog light. They MUST of put it on for the MOT and then went to the bother of takng it off again!!!!!! :xxx:

Thank you for your advice

All i know is that you have to be able to tell the difference between the Brake / side lights and a rear fog light......mine is the top spoiler light with a switch on the dash as the fog.... :D

Mine passed its MoT with clear red stickers over two of the reversing lights which had been re-wired. Looks naff though...

get a cheapo one from halfords, bolt it on under the bumper, wirre it in through the car for the test, then take the thing off:)

When I got mine it had the reverse light light conversion - got me through an MOT but I've gone for the inner brake light job now. Much neater and much brighter! well worth it I think.

Chris,

First there are only two reverse light bulbs on the car, one left with two appatures, and one right with two appatures.

Second, it depends how much you want your Zed to look OEM, if you do then there are a number of ways that you can obtain Rear Fogs and keep the original look.

1) Rewire one of your reverse lamps to a fog switch, but change the bulb for a red bulb (instead of clear). This keeps the clear lens look from outside.

2) Rewire either the righthand inner brake lamp, or both inner brake lamps to a fog switch. This should be done with a relay, then your 'Bulb-Out' lamp will not illuminate when you press the brake peddle (but will when your fogs are switched on)

3) If you have the OEM spoiler, you can rewire this as your rear fog either indipendentley or, again, with a relay to keep the brake when you are not using the fogs. (my current option when I've fitted the OEM spoiler)

I need to do this soon too.

Is it legal to use the same switch as the front fog lights? Ie. so that when you press the switch, front and rear fogs all come on? I never use the front fogs unless it's foggy!

I don't want to have an ugly switch and 'tell-tale' on my dashboard.

Ugly switch/tell-tale doesn't need to be the case- I've got a low-profile rocker with a small integral LED, mounted on the dial-side of the right-hand pod. It evidently got it through an MOT, and you'd hardly know it's there. (I'll probably forget myself, the first time it's foggy :-) )

Currently only have a (red) reverse light wired though. When I get a chance, I'll do the inner brake light conversion.
