Fuel Economy??? Yeah right!

Lads and Laddess' alike,

I know we haven't bought our ZX's for their amazing fuel economy figures but I am curious to know what the average mileage is from a full tank of fuel on the TTs.

Obviously you who need new tyres every 6 months will be counting gallons to the mile instead of the other way round but I am only interested in the normal figures including warm up and cool down tick over time.

Does about 20mpg sound right?

No not at all!!!

If I take it steady and keep out of the +.

I can get around 17ish!

big wheels and spoilers also don't help, but I did not buy it for economy,I got it for it's balls out performance!!!

I reckon on 20mpg, or a fraction over. Lots of motorway miles will see something like 25 (on a good day, downhill, with light shoes) wink.gif

I get about 21MPG. But I boot it a little. On longer journies I get about 25mpg

This spreadsheet shows my fuel economy (and the price of fuel) etc since the first day I got my car. So that's something like 25,000 miles, which should give a reasonable picture.

My Fuel Stats

[This message has been edited by AndyP (edited 05-10-2001).]

if i drive like an old lady, starting the car in 2nd gear keeping the rpm low and shift prematurely before the rpm rises, i can get lil over 25mpg lol

but my normal driving habits get me around 15...........

which i can't complain cause my old lincoln made 13.3

But of course US gallons are smaller than imperial gallons. Think it's 20% -ish i.e. 16floz to the pint rather than 20floz.

Hi Coz!

I used to do A LOT of motorway miles (near daily Birmingham-London roundtrip) and usually couldn't get up to any break-neck speeds due to heavy traffic. Averaged about 70-75mph and 22-24mpg. As that particular job has finished I now do mostly city driving (less than 15 miles each time) and average about 16-17mpg. I don't thrash the car about but also don't drive like my granny. You're right though - we didn't buy these lovely machines for their awesome fuel economy!

CheerZ!

I used to get 13mpg which included a lot of rush hour motorway driving. After switching to Optimax I now get 16mpg which, I'm sure you will agree, is quite a result.

Much better than the Lotus "Permanently Bust Pile of Shite" Carlton I used to have which returned 7mpg on a good day!

I get around 400 miles to tank, thats when the light comes on.

Leigh.

Bloody hell, if I get 300 I reckon I'm setting a world record. My light normally comes on around 260 ! Did really well the other day and got to 289.

If you check the spreadsheet link I posted earlier the final column is the theoretical number of miles per tankful (72litres) given the consumption for that tank.

Yep, the optimist in me thought it would be like my sensible car and do at least another 40 miles with the low fuel light on. Not on a Z! Spluttered safely to a halt off the road after about 30. Turned it off before it totally died in case I got air in the injectors. Got the wife to come with a gallon - she forgets the funnell though. So I gets about 3 litres in using a rolled up brown envelope with the rest down the side. Just as well it was dark and nobody saw me! Yes its true - trip straight to the garage and almost 70 further litres filled it.

17mpg worst and 25mpg best - so far. That means 250 - 350 per tank until your nerve goes or it stops!

Yeah, they are scarey in the fuel consumption dept. that's for sure.

My Mk III Soup used to eat it aswell, but I didn't realise how good that was until I got the Z with an extra Jet engine to boot!!! Fook me, about level par with me womans Range Rover and that's 3.5 V8 perm. 4 wheeler...that puts it in perspective!!!

Well I dont know what ECU chips you guyz have but mine has been upgraded, I have a Larger oil cooler, an air filter, pair of dump valves and large single exhaust. The car gives about 400BHP, and spins the rears in 3rd at 70MPH, although I am still running the JAP spec 225 tyres. The car is smooth, and extremely quick, but gives around 400miles to the tank.

Are you sure you speedo doesn't still work in km?

Or have you have the standard fuel tank "upgraded" too?

I average around 200-250 although once got 280miles from a full tank.

What's the lowest fuel consumption anyon has got?

I've done a full tank in around 150 miles... Ouch!

Steve

Leigh,

I reckon your speedo does mph and your odometer kph ! Seriously !!!

Show me a Z TT that does 400m per tank and I'll show you someone that transports it on a trailer !!!

400km is about 250 miles, which about right according to other posts on this thread. Mine does about 190 b4 i have to chuck another £45 in. My diesel does about 500 miles to £33 (or £12 of red dye) smile.gif)

I've noticed that the fuel gauge is dis-proportionate to the amount of fuel that it uses. I have just dropped past half way and have covered 120 miles. How does this fit with you guys?

Yes the gauage is certainly not linear. Mine does just about 150 (or less) to the halfway mark.

Hi,

Leigh...You will probably find that your trip meter is still reading in KMs.

My import car used to tell me that it was nearly 30 miles to work...I know it's only about 20!Although the speedo was correct.

JEZ

fast or slow mine does 15 mpg on unleaded but for some strange reason i get more mpg on super plus

got ours back from southampton to birmingham (142 miles) on 1/4 of a tank. But it really eats it in traffic, from birmingham to wolverhampton is eat the other 1/4 tank. (1/2 tank was put in at southampton)
