Bushes........Brazilian and others!!!!

Now I've got you reading, I apologise but I'm only talking about the "others", the Brazilian ones are on a different website. :D :D

I understand bushes are a consumable of the 300zx but I need some professional assistance in diagnosing whether they need replacing or not, and what ones to replace.

I get a creaking and knocking noise from the offside front suspension, which is more pronounced at the beginning of a journey - ie when everything is cold. If I've been out before or been running for a while the noises are quieter. Is this indicative of a problem with the bushes? ( my car has done 66k miles).

I live in Hemel Hempstead, and if there's a knowledgable owner/mechanic in the local area, I'd appreciate it if they could have a look for me.

Cheers for any advice guys,

Simon.

Hi Simon,

I have exactly the same problem and if I remember right, PaulC posted the answer a while back (not much help but I'm sure he knows) :)

Could be upper link bushes. You'd feel the play with the wheel off the ground jacked up. Tyres tend to wear at the shoulders also. Cure is either new top links or you can buy NISMO replacement bushes only thru Middlehurst Motors. Skylines use the same ones. Set of bushes is around £160 - 2 inners and 2 outers each side. Takes a couple of hours to do with the right tools.

Yet other poss is if the tension rod bushes have been changed for poly ones. Sometimes the bolt and nut dont get tightened enough and you get a clonk or creak when braking when going backwards then forwards.

i have exactly that same problem, kinda like a creaky rattle, disappears when driven for a bit and appears to be worse when its been raining.. i cant fooking find it and according to phil at c&S he reckons my top mounts are sound, ive changed the tension rod bushes, it did it before the bushes and still does it after, so i thought it might be a duff shock, changed them still same. its mad how it doesnt do it all the time, still cant be that serious as its passes the mot!!! mines on the drivers side!!

Mine failed an MOT for worn upper link bushes.

I had it on a ramp and couldnt find any play at all ,spent ages trying to feel atleast something but nope, although the tyre wears a bit but I put that down to camber.

So I took it to another MOT tester and it sailed straight through!

Cheers,

on mine, i replaced the anti roll bar bushes that were worn, but i think most of it was the upper arm bushes.

i cheated!! - removed the upper arms, cleaned all the bolts etc & lubed up with spray copper slip!! :D

had no play in my bushes & its all but cured the creaking. mine was doing it all the time & sounded awful. does it once every now & again which i can live with now, at least until i get some adjustable upper arms :)
