Dreaded Detonation

Ouch - I can hear it - just, under certain conditions - car has never done it before - I thought it might have been a bad batch of fuel coz I filled up with BP, but just refilled with Shell and its still there...I've got spark plugs, timing, o2 sensors and temp sensor to check - have I missed anything? Any other suggestions to try?

Cheers for anything!

Jeff,

Don't understand why you would get pinking under light throttle. Normally it would only be under load, i.e. full throttle, low revs.

Pinging usually happens under full load, but not always. (bad fuel, vacuumleaks)

You might want to check for vacuumleaks or see if the EGR is still functioning.

As the others have said check for vac leaks. It happened to me because one of those skinny black pipes that runs along side the inlet manifold had come off.

Sorry guys I probable did`nt explain it well ,I meant when going up a hill and when you have to put you foot down more it pinked a very liitle stopped when you backed off,but as said all gone now after chip change.Tim have got boost jets in at the moment but still playing with sizes as boost level changed when did exhaust and air filter mods, and now dump vales are working well sweet!! woooshhh what a kid I am.running about 15psi found if go too far above this on a heavy boot the car drops in to over boost and have to switch off and on again to clear.Well happy now can do donuts like easy peesy never before have i done that, also can pull away up the road on spinning wheels in the dry! and auto.I think its still needs some fine setting though may get timing and full Co check or a rolling road set up.
