Hi Ryan

Thanks for your help today- it was much appreciated. Just trying to remember what we talked about regarding the knock sensor.

So we found out that I have a faulty knock/detonation sensor (I take it that its the same thing). And that a wire was cut/snapped on the knock det sensor connector. I have patched that cable back up, but still get error 34.

Managed to get it back to 55- all clear then went round the block and it went back to 34 again.

The question really is how do I find out if this is caused by a faulty sensor or whether it is suffering from det. If it is suffering from det, then I guess I need to address that problem. It could also be wiring problem as it is all in bad nick but as far as I can see, there are no other breaks in the wires.

There was talk today of using a resistor to get round the problem, but I understand there is a possible risk when doing this.

So, saying its worse case- have to have the engine out to do the sensor, where's the best place to take it to? Bearing in mind, while its out, I'll have cambelt, pump, hoses etc done as well. + the loads of other bits that I know need doing.

Cheers

No worries AL

options are

Resistor trick

top part of the engine pull to replace the sensor itself

re-look at the connector loom might be something simple

You can also drop the gearbox and replace the sensor that way, but the downside is you need small hands, upside is you dont need to strip half the engine.

Just my 2p worth

Short and sweet- I guess I'd already answered my own questions

Think I'll chuck in the resistor for the mo until I get the cash together for the major work.

Any ideas where I can get the resistor? Is it specialised or can I just get it from somewhere like maplins or RS?

Thanks for the tip. Gearbox is on my list of things to do as well so could be handy to do it then.

...and me got small hands
