Replacing PCV valves and hoses

I've just been outside finally getting round to replacing my PCV valves and all the hoses.

I started on the driver's side as that's apparently easier... I've managed to remove the main hose - the one that connects to the PCV valve. Removing the PCV valve itself is proving to be a major pain in the arse. :(

I have a deep 19mm socket, but I presume it must be too deep as when it's on the valve, there's no way of attaching anything to it as the pipes from the brake master cylinder get in the way. A "less deep" socket won't go onto it properly.

Can someone who's done this tell me which tool is the best to use for this? Should I just go and buy a 19mm spanner (as if I have one, I can't find the ****ing thing! ), or won't that fit either?

Are there any other tools I should buy at the same time for when I try replacing some of the other hoses or the valve on the other side?

Thanks

You need a short extension with a universal joint in the middle, then its difficult but can at least be done. personally I found the pass side one much easier to do.

Well I managed to get this done tonight. I bought a 19mm spanner and it was no problem at all with the brake master cylinder still in place, although I had already moved some other stuff out of the way.

Fiddling around with the hose and getting the clips back on was a pain though and I eventually replaced the rear one, which was incredibly tight, with a jubilee clip.

The passenger side was much easier, as Kenny said. With the battery out, all you need is a deep 19mm socket and a short extension and it comes right out.

I also did both of the front hoses, which were fiddly and took ages.

I'm going to have another go at the rear one tomorrow and I get the feeling it's going to take me a while! ;)

I'm not entirely sure there was anything wrong with the valves though, although they did have a fair bit of oil in them and in the hoses.
