Help!!! Urgently!

can anyone shed some light on this matter?

car is hunting all the time from about 450rpm to 1500rpm, black smoke coming out of exhausts( i know its over feulling) but why? have cleaned some connectors as direct by geoff at zedworld but is still doing it. also it won't go over 5500rpm now. it's also an auto. have checked temp sensor(cleaned connector) also the O2 sensor connectors were cleaned and the TPS sensor connectors.....

HELP!

i take it theres no fault code??

have you checked the resistance of the temp sensor & harness??

could also be air mass sensor.

are the O2 sensors working?

when u take the temp sensor connector off the fan cuts in and when back on goes off.

the O2 sensors seemed to be working .

I don't know if it helps but it went in to have bodywork done and it was baked in the oven so to speak.

i would double check the TPS connection and maybe monitor the voltage on it. Bad O2 sensor wouldn't cause this.

no, but it may show if its running permenantly rich, as the voltage wont change ;)

does anyone in the Andover area have a conzult machine at all?

Hi mate,

I am just up the road in Newbury if you can get the car up to me I will have a look for you.

Ryan

Still think it's your ECU temp sensor (yellow plug) - if that's dicky the engine might think it's cold which will cause rich running.

You can get a new sensor and harness and connector for the grand total of about 40 quid, so that's got to be a good place to start!

If you still don't have stable idle you need to adjust the IAA and all that guff, search for IAA on here...

check the recirc return pipes to the low pressure side of the intake, i had this couple of months back, hunting like a bugger, up, down, up down, black smoke out the back, one had a split in it...worth a try.

Give the induction or air filters a good clean out mate, and also give the AFM/MAS a blow through (not with a compressor, just with your mouth oh-er)

Where abouts My good man?

the garage have got it now as we speak to have a look at it as it went wrong whilst in there hands. but if no joy i will come to u,

But to give u an idea it cost me £10 in fuel to travel from Whitchurch to Andover and run it when tack was here looking at it. (Andover to Whitchurch is 6 miles)

Cheers Ryan, u could be a saviour if no joy at the garage.

I still can't figure what it is though mate the only thing we didn't check was afm. but i find it hard to believe it could cause so much trouble.

any more opinions on this?

Thank u to everyone who suggested things that might be wrong

The Garage have repaired it  , it turned out to be a AFM wire faulty well to be precise, cooked!
