Today I donned my facemask and gloves, and removed that thing under the bonnet, only problem was i unearthed a load of dirtyness!!

Have cleaned it up quite well, just a bit more time on the fiddly bits and all should be ok.

It does seem like the needle on the temp guage doesnt go up as far now, but i wager that im imagining it, just so i think i wasnt wasting my time!!

Nice one mate, i have removed the blanket off every Z i've had, just keeps heat in,you will crap yourself when it rains, your in slowmoving traffic and all you can see ahead is loads of steam rising from bonnet, allways wonderd at what other motorist must be thinking as they look over to see it :D

Who on earth told you the sound proofing / heat shield was made from asbestos??? The sticker under the hood is a warning about the asbestos in the original brake pads and the CATS (there's wrap around the catalyst in the earlier models which stops it from rattling)

The Z has no other asbestos in it - not in the pads, the clutch, and certainly not in the heat shield which dangles above your head everytime you open the bonnet!!!

However, if you still have any original brake pads then they may contain some, but since 1999 there's been a total ban on any asbestos in anything in the EU

Simon.

Too right, left it running for 10mins in garage when arrived home for a good inspection, wer'nt in the mood to pull over and get soaked just to have a look

SGT C - wont you share your cooling tips with us?

Yeah c'mon bud! Mine seems to be getting hotter since removing the rad shroud. I thought this was just there to protect you from the fan

AFAIK The rad shroud actually helps direct the blown air onto the rad?

Without it your cooling efficiency drops a fair bit.
