Right, please help me guys, My zed is smoking on overrun, but only if the speed is aprox 60mph or more. now on looking at the Plenum its full of oil, so is the VCV valves and hoses. this is defo whats causeing the smoke, right here is the question, Where is this oil comeing from and why, Turbos and intake hoses are bone dry, also dont know if this is related but the metal pipe from the drivers intake cam cover has been blown out like preasure had built up in the cover. by the way the PCV valves, and hoses are all less then a year old.

Cheers Guys.

Mathew

P.S. Set a new personal record for pulling an engine! 4 Hours

I had smoke from the passeenger exhaust on idle, it turned out to be from the driver side PCV hose not being tightened correctly and overfill of oil, over a month since fixed and no smoke,

Thanks for the info mike! It was defo not over filled, Starting to think its a piston gone

Cheers bud, compression test was perfect! all spot on.

Well it sounds like a sticky PCV valve to me, but if you have changed them all and they are fine.

How much oil are you loosing ? and is there any sign of oil patches under the car ?

Sounds like PCV's to me too.

Have you changed ALL the PCV hoses and cleaned out the metal lines?

They can get very clogged up.

PCV's were changed when i did the first rebuild, even changed the rubber pipes (all of them) i'll have a look at the metel ones at lunch, maybe there is a blockage. What ones are the ones to check?

There's the metal ones that link the rubber PCV hoses round the back of the engine.

Also the exits from the plenum to the PCV valves could have got something blocking them - Dropped any screws in it? ;)

LOL, no loose screws in the engine, only in my head :slap: i know the oil is comeing in via the PCV's or at least it looks that way as the valves were full of oil and so was the rubber pipe that joins to the valve. Will know more when i look later.

The oil has to have come from the turbos - can't think of any other way it can get in there.

Don't know what work you've done to the engine so could the oil have been in the plenum previously and have run to one side to clog the valve when you were putting it back together?

Clean the plenum out if you can...

Cheers for the info m8. Plenum was clean as a whisle when i rebuilt it, turbo pipes and intercoolers are dry as a bone, no oil what so ever. Gonna go strip/Check it some more now. :hyper:

When you refilled with oil, did you pour it in via the balance bar holes? :D

Use the oil filler like everyone else

Right! shes striped down to the block now! still cant see any major problems yet. gotta check each piston and bore tomorrow lunch. Any one have any more sugestions what it could be?

someone needs to buy mat a drink

taken engine out and stripped it with about 6 hours labour!!

the thing must be stuck together with velcro

Bloody 'el mate that was quick , did you actually put all the bolts and screws back in last time you rebuilt her

just had a though Mat,

You say it's smoking when coming off the acceleration and at idle after a period of time ?

This really is starting to sound like piston rings or landers. When you had probelms with the engine before did you have any scrathes on the bore ?. Saying that you said that the compression was fine.

May be worth doing a cylinder leakage test if you can't find anything, it may be a case that by some freak of nature you are loosing roughly X psi from each cylinder.

Also what colour is the smoke ?. White, grey/blue or black ? Does it vanish quick at idle or is it quite thick ?
