The Ford Sierra Cosworth

Whilst minding my own business on that sunny Sunday driving up to Silverstone for Trax I came upon (not in the Biblical sense) what appeared to be a hapless Sapphire Cosworth.

It was at a roundabout on the A43 and the Saff spots my evil Zed as we 'round the 'bout'. So I know by the look of the passenger he is going to exit the roundabout in a streetfighter stylee, and boyyakasha does this guy go. Now whilst I didn't want to let the side down so to speak, I was a little hungover and lazy on the go-pedal.

Anyways he never got away but my old cooter only just kept up. I wasnt really trying anyway and he got a better exit of the roundabout but never underestimate the power of the Cosworth.

As it happened he flew off at about 130 and I just let off at a ton coz im a handbag, but when i came around corner all I saw was smoke and a rather embarresed Cossie driver.. the traffic had built up at the next roundabout and poor old Cosworth had locked up and nearly wiped oot.

Bless him, his exhaust was kicking out loads of smoke. I think he blew a jpeg or something.

I think its time for me to go back to my special room now

Goodnite

Cossies can be upped to about 300bhp no probs. But the engines are under real stress. Look in auto trader and look at how many descriptions say

"300bhp, only XXXXX miles on new engine"

Dont for get the original cosworth for the rallies where 500bhp. That is why its called the RS 500 Cosworth and they made 500 of them to enter into the rally.

What reg was it, if it was pre H its 2WD if H or more 4WD. The 2WD are quite fast

Cossies will always have a huge amount of REZPECT regardless! Top motor from Ford, sad day when they stopped the Escort Cossie...pussy's!!!

TRAX belter had to be the Evo guys in shock that a Cossie did 0-60 in 3.5 I think? Fookin' hell that is awesome!

Thinking of cossies you can see how a car goes through 3 stages in its life.

Stage 1..The dogs bollox.Almost new so only owned by people with loads of dosh. I remember an art teacher at school with a XR4i and seeing a transporter full of series 1 RS turbo's and thinking "One day I might be rich enough to own one of those" (And I did once they had depriciated by about 90% LOL.)

Stage 2. The 'knob jockey' stage. The car is now down to an affordable price to the masses. Picture this scene- Junior office boy gets home on Friday night after a day of being kicked around by everyone at work. then the transformation occurs, on goes the shell suit, the baseball cap and the 3 rattners gold soverign rings, then its off in a cloud of tyre smoke to meet his other clones to discuss splitfire plugs and peco exhausts.

Stage 3. Junior office boy is now started to shave and he has lost his licence anyway. The car has now become a bit special again and turns heads because you only tend to see nice ones that are owned by enthusiasts.

Where is the Z in this great scheme I hear you shout?

About stage 2 (and a half) I would say biggrin.gif

LMAO! Nice one Paul you read my mind, have you met me then?

Stage 2 sounds like a Z meet to me!

Hi

The 300ZX is definately at the edge of stage 2/3...with all the cheaper import cars being sold for peanuts!

You also have the genuine enthusiasts who are spending big money on these cars to get them up to scratch.Hopefully after a couple of owners in this country, some will have had all the faults and wear and tear items sorted, and so will make good buys in a year or so.(having bankrupted the first 2 owners wink.gif )

I'll mostly be takin' an angle grinder to my Z before I let anyone get their mits on it, after the amount I've spent on the fookin' thing!!!

So to all those who want one...bugger off and get one somewhere else coz it's 'till death us do part with mine!

Nice one Timmyturbo LOL I will almost be up to 20k soon must be foooooookin mad!

Yes Andy but when does it all stop. When I got me z I never thought I would spend anywhere near that but once you got the bug it is a bit scary.

It doesn't stop. Take heart in the fact that if you bought a new car the depreciation would be horrible. This way at least you have the choice !

LMAO! "got the bug?" I know what you mean matey. Me not got the bug, more like ended up trying to cure cancer! LOL!

...and still trying!

I've spent nowhere near 20k (thank god, I've only had the car like two months!).. But I took out 6k's worth of loan...

I paid for the car, plus my GT Turbo.. And the other 4k of the loan has gone on;

alarm, radar detector & laser jammer

standard service parts

60k service parts + UD pulley set

four tyres + alignment

aircon regas

insurance

And that's all.. Oh - and in fact theres more than 4k in there really, coz both credit cards are maxed now too!

And now it's dead... minuts it's coil packs, balance tube and half the vac tubing (so I'm part way through getting the plenum off)...

Ahh well whatcha gonna do?
