I need a bit of cheering up at the moment so I'm buying one of these shortly (really wanted another 300, but want something a bit newer/more reliable and also I like a change from time to time). Is the v-spec the one to go for? Does anyone have any experience of them? how do they compare to the z in terms of performance/tuning etc?

Any info would be great.

thanks guys

Bob on heres got one, try pm ing him

wait a min. your asking a zed head about a inline... O MY GOD

but yep from what i know the v-spec is the one to go for. but what do I know, I cant stand em.

i dont think it makes that much difference to be honest, as far as im aware the vspec bit is only a trim level, but i stand to be corrected

One of my mates is selling an R reg R33 GTR V spec (silver) manual.

Giv eme a shout if you are interested and I'll put you in touch. I think he wants 15k for it (or something in that region).

No, the V Spec or Victory Spec ;) was created to celibrate the Skylines championship in some formula or motor racing. They had larger brakes and the 4WD is slightly better. I think it worked 10 times faster are changing the power ratio. There are other differences too which generally made it slightly better all round car.

One thing I have heard about the Skyline, and please correct me if I'm wrong, that if you ever get into trouble traction wise the 4WD system works its arse off trying to get the car stable, but if after a while it fails, it completely turns off the 4WD making it 100% RWD and in essence makes things even worse., but this is a rare occurance.

Like I said. Just what I have read on the internet some where.

I actually love Skylines, but I could never get rid of my Z.

Look let's not mince boll0x here! Skyline is a far superior being, but be aware that it is NOT a Nissan/Datsun creation...Prince developed and started the trend. I love the Skylark, some hate it but personally it is an awesome piece of machinery! Z is nice but the Skylark is cool. Check out Andy Barnes's R-34 which I saw at Trax last year, f\/cking awesome, it's been in Banzai or Jap Performance recently and his best chum owns the Evo which f\/cked off the Gixxers at the 0-60 aswell, that was a day I will always remember. Power bikes being p1ssed on by a car! LMFAO

Andy runs Sumo tuning incase you wondered WTF I was on about! ;)

I read somewhere that the people who tune for really huge power often choose the non V-spec model because it is stronger or something like that anyway.

ROFLMFAO

Yeah non V-Spec doesn't have cup holders Paul, hence lowering the power to weight ratio! ;)

(really wanted another 300, but want something a bit newer/more reliable and also I like a change from time to time). Is the v-spec the one to go for? Ch

Stuff the R33, I'd rather have my Z!!

IMO, the R33 is great perfomer and handles like nothing else but it looks so bland, inside and out.

Save your cash and buy an improved Z. If you have the cash the 350Z's are going for as low as £18000!!!

Aren't the GTR 33s supposed to be the easiest car ever to tune up?

And if i remember correctly the touring cars (or whatever championship it was) had to change the rules to remove Skylines cos they kept winning every year. A bit like Schumacker but more often...

Easy yes cheap no

Replacements front brake discs £750 and thats just standards

I think just because there looked on at the ultimate tuning car and they do hold there value that most places charge more for the tuning bits for them

Charles,

Not really sure if your question is about a Skyline, A GT-R, an R33 or a V-Spec.

If you want a Skyline and you are used to a 300ZX the I suggest you look at the GT-R and not the GTSt, GTS or any other derivative. Inless of course you really like RWD in whcih case a GTSt would be the best thing. The GTSt has fundamentally the same engine as the GT-R, the GTSt having the RB25 and the GT-R having the RB26. Both of these can be modified to huge potential. There are at least two 600bhp GTSt in the UK and many more GT-Rs.

If your question relates to an R33 then it's a matter of choice (and money). The R32 is the first Skyline that most UK people will recognise (although the Skyline goes back to 1955 and the GTRs back many years too). The R33 is the heavier of the three - R32, R33, R34 and is known in Japan as the "Skyline Limo". It has plenty of room (GT-Rs are full four seaters) and wighs in at 1.5 tons. If you prefer the smaller shape of the R32 then what you save on buying an older car wil mean you can spend on performance imporvements. Keith Cowies car at TOTB2 was an R32; Rocket Ronnies and R33. However, the R34 is lighter than the R33 and has a lot more gadgets to play with - mainly in the form of the MFD. The R32, R33, R34 all have the same engine (give or take).

If you want to know whtehrt to go for a V-Spec (V is for Victory) then you need to look at the differences. This link should help: http://www.gtr.co.uk/html/technical/index.asp

If you want a car for track days come along to one of the GTROC days:

Brands Hatch - 24 June

Spa 27 May (oops just missed it :x: )

Bruntingthorpe - 8 August

TOTB3

- others to be confirmed.

If you're interested just for general use there are pub meets planned throughout the Summer. Alternatively contact Claire Williams or me at JAE and we'll see you at the GTROC stand.

No mate, Bathurst 24 hour mountain race in Oz you are referring to. They restricted the race to V8's only so mainly Ford and Vauxhall, as the Skylark was caining BBQ ass everytime...in fact that's where the Godzilla name tag came from! ;)

Excellent race though, makes Le Mans look like a joke! ROFL

Bathurst 24 hour

Thanks for all the advice and links fellas!

Thanks for that TT. I've just learned something new.

Sorry, should have said restricted to V8 Ford's and Holden's, same thing as Vauxhall though! LOL :)

You can get top quailty discs for 1/4 of that price, but if you want to spend ~£1500 you can buy a 356mm AP 6-pot kit with calipers rotors etc which will piss on the little Brembo 324mm setup.

They aren't necessarily expensive to tune, bits aren't really any more expensive than for the zed (as long as you get them from the right places) as they are a popular car/engine.

The thing that hikes the prices is 'Specialist' Skyline tuners ripping people off on both fitting and the price of parts.

If you are a DIY tuner then you could have a field day. :)

Would be alot easier to work on than the Zed.

Dang I want an R32 GTR...

...Dang I want an R32 GTR...

Jezz if you win on the Lotto will you buy me an R-34 GT-R V-Spec bud??? Will be yer bestest chum ever! LOL :)

no, I'll get you the V-Spec II. :)

I nearly made the R32 jump a while back but decided to go mental on the 200 instead, I've just ordered some stupid bits for it, it'll either go fast, blow up or both at the same time LOL. :D

My mate imports cars to sell, he had an R32 GTR on that ship that sank last week, I was going to borrow it to see if it lives up to expectation. Gutted!!!

What ship that sunk??? You don't wanna borrow it now bud unless you've got full SCUBA gear and fancy being an extra in Finding Nemo Part Deux! ROFL :)

What do you mean what ship?

The one that had everyones grey imports on that sunk last week.

Mate lost an R32 GTR  and a Scoob :hyper:

A couple of people on here lost their Zeds too.

Sh1t, hope that Scoopy boy's car wasn't on that MO FO! :(

Well you can rest assured that any Toyotas will have survived as Clarkson proved when he tried to drown that Hi-Lux! ROFLMFAO :)

Scoob(a) dooba should be alright, might smell a bit fishy for a while though I would've thought. :)

I always wondered why disks went that funny yellow colour when they'd stood for a bit...

:D
