Removing shocks ?!?

Hi all,

Just having a bash at replacing shocks and springs - problem is I can't get the old shocks off. The bottom bolt through the clevis is unmoveable. Is the nut on the other side a captive nut or does it need removing before the bolt can be withdrawn? It seems impossible to get a socket on it anyway...

Advice mucho appreciatedo

Front or rear? Sounds like rears to me in which case you need to remove the nut, then slide out the bolt... You may need some force to get it out, but try putting some weight on the hub and it should come out easier...

LOL how long are his arms then? :D Either that or V short legs :D

OK thanks guys, it's the nut on the back of the clevis I can't get off at the mo' PITA!!

Never mind, I've put it to bed for now, hopefully will be looking again with Ben on Monday...he has a nice big bar to use.

Out of interest I've had some comedy quotes for the job of fitting these. - 4 hours at £35 per hour - sheesh!

Ciao!

I've recently had a rear shock fitted for the MOT.

I was going to have a go myself but could not get enough torque on the 17mm spanner needed to undo the nut in question (i tried doubling up a pair of spanners but still could'nt shift it) , so was told the best way was to put an air gun on the 'bolt head' and put a spanner (17mm) on the nut and it should undo. (btw, put lots of WD40 or similar on and around the shock mount and bolt area beforehand.)

If not then the bolts probably seized in its bush (mine was'nt thankfully) and you may have to try a little heat to the bolt head NOT the bushing in the hub though as this will damage it. :(

Take it round to a friendly mechanic and kindly ask him to undo it for you using the method above, this is what i did and we had the shock fitted in an hour and a half (working slowly as my friendly mechanic is 60 odd ! ) including swapping the spring over. :)
