the handling on my Z is pretty awfull, not that I have had much to compair it to, (other Z's) but I feel it could be a lot firmer. It seems to drift round corners and the handling feels rerally soft if you get what I mean.

How much will it cost me for new shocks, springs and anything else that may need replacing?. I am talking stock replacement....

Cheers.

This is what mine was like, just got hold of Luke at the ZCentre and orded a pair of rear shocks, £30 each, and it tightened the back end up.

Shocks

Cheers Dave

Did you fit these yourself?

No I got my mechanic to do it, cost me £40, but I've since read on another thread that it's a straight forwrd job to do yourself, but then I've seen 'Straight Forward' jobs before ;)

lol, yeah don't I know it. At the end of the day it's all down to your personall skills. I will have a go though and probably fook me knuckles up (again) and then hand it over to someone that knows what they are doing :D

Cheeers

If you don't have cuts and graises on your hands then you don't work on your car enough ;)

I changed my water pump and only have one cut :D, several burns from bleeding the rad though (i have soft skin lol)

I think its worth doing it your self if you have the correct tools and some know how and someone who's done it before on the end of the phone :D

for me its not about saving money but more about doing it yourself.

I agree entierly Mike, but as this was my first job on the Zed, and I thought it might be a bit of a pain in the arse, i decided that it was best in the hands of some who know what the fook he's doing :D, oh! and I didnt have anyone on the other end of the phone i could ask :(

But then I've done all my other jobs myself, including this afternoon I'm gona clean the throttle bodies :D

yup defiently not woth taking something on if you arnt confident, when i first had my zed i got a garage to change the rad cowling.... I do know my limits though, new clutch is coming soon and that will be done at a garage.

for me its not about saving money but more about doing it yourself.

Spot on Mike. I all ways like to have a dabvble even I do fook it up now and again. It's the thought that counts :D

What have you got? UK or Jap? UK suspention is firmer than Jap and is more expensive.

Jap, but it really is a pile of pants as my old Cav seemed better. I am going to replace the rears and see if this firms things up.

PS. I thought this was a bit of a myth about UK susspension being firmer. Why would they do this. It would just cost more which I am sure they will try to avoid at all costs (pardon the pun)

UK car was £36k when new the Japanese home market one was considerably cheaper, maybe 30% depending on spec additions. UK has 30% bigger rad, and bigger oil coolers plus diff oil cooler, 2 stage leccy rear shocks, wider rear stock wheels, generally leather and heated leccy seats climate etc. Bigger rads etc supposedly for cruising very fast (limited to 155mph) on continental motorways whereas Japan was limited to is it 112mph? I havent driven any imports but my UK feels like a go kart - its a bit too hard for me - I just dont recognise lousy handling and soft - its not a zed. Maybe you have very tired shocks and soft springs. 17 or 18" wheels also transform handling but make it harder riding still. UK car comes with free rust and cheaper insurance - generally speaking.

What I am saying, that Japanese shocks are a lot cheaper than UK ones. Maybe you could up grade to UK ones but I dont think the electronic stiffening of the suspention will work.

Jap cars being soft has little to do with cost to Nissan at the point of manufacture and lots ot do with what the market is deemed to find acceptable. UK cars aren't more expensive then Jap ones because of the spec, it's because that's what the market will stand. Springs and dampers cost OEM's the same whatever their setting (although I'll admit the UK rears are adjustable which would have cost a little more).

The cost of service parts bares little relation to their cost to the OEM at the point of manufacture. Most service parts cost 10X what the OEM paid for them at the plant. OK, volumes are less then they were when the car was in production but OEM's make huge amounts of money out of their service parts supply operations, often offestting the losses they make in manufacture.

I am sure some one on here bought stock suspension on here and found the UK suspension to be twice as much.

UK car comes with free rust

Knew I should have bought a UK car! ;)

But seroiuosly, I think I will go for some replacement Rear shocks and see if this helps. If not I may go aftermarket springs and shocks...

Cheers.

Z Centre rear shocks at @ £30 each. I take it these would be Jap (Sorry Japanese)

Stock UK shocks were over £120 each and you re use the actuators - shocks are Tokico as well with hollow piston rods so the actuator can change the valving inside.
