I think a Road Angel is on the cards now. Group buy anyone.

Good call Cos. Me mate has just bought one and Iam gettin one next week. Mabee if we get enough orders we could well get a discount

afaik the *new version* road angel has a laser detector built in.

dont know if this works from a mile away though.

Im up for one if they're cheap enough on a group buy though

That's just about everyone then :(

I have already got a nice 9 band Laser detector which is good for 1 mile (line of sight) detection. I also want the Angel because with the detectors you cannot really tell if its picking up a real signal or the doors on Safeways opening and closing. Due to this I tend not to relie on just the detector alone.

Do these new cameras use a laser beam? If so, has anyone had any experience with laser jammers? Are they any good? I'm under the impression taht they are illegal!

It will work from a mile if the radar signal from the gun is strong enough, which it has to be to reflect back

AFAIK it's another case of it not being illegal to have one fitted, but it IS illegal for you to use it!  Another well thought out law

I have a cobra radar detector, doesnt know if it works or not though as it goes off if I drive by a bank, yet doesnt go off for any gatso's etc!!!

Still, nice to be warned Im near a cash machine :)

Im thinking of chopping it in for a road angel

My mate built his own detector, cos him £2.17 and has a nice wooden box that sits on his dash!

Its not bad, except everything sets it off, phones, doors, indicators, birds, talking, blinking.

AFAIK Laser jammers are not illegal and neither is their use. It is not against the law to transmit infra red - otherwise you'd need a license for your tv remote LOL I'm sure there is something though which says about obstructing the police in their investigations or some clap trap... Could be completely wrong though...

Ever seen these sensors in cars which opens your garage door as you drive up? They are infact radar jammers. :D

But people have been prosicuted for having one. Preventing the course of justiace of something.

I think you mean Perverting the course of justice

Don't be so Pedantic :slap:

I'm up for a group buy because I'd like to keep my licence and I find it very difficult to drive at the speed limit on open roads.

i think you'll find its only the police who SAY a jammer is illegal

i don't know of anyone being prosecuted YET, and theres no set law to prosecute you under, so they would have to "invent" one or prosecute you under some other law

my m8 who fits alarms was fitting a new alarm to the wifes car today

and showed me the Target LRC 100 he has just upgraded to, best thing about this is, it automatically jams the signal, whereas the older ones you were given a warning and you had to press a button to jam when it picked up the laser, you slowed down and switch off, all you have to worry about now is slowing down, as it also switches off itself

so ive just ordered one, as mentioned before i have got a road angel and swear by it, but you can never have enough protection lol

Sounds good stick one of these on the group by as well cos it's still going to be cheaper than a fine + instant ban and knowing my luck a short stay a one of Her Majesty's Hostelry's.

The ever increasing amount of scamera vans (spit) use laser too, so a jammer is deffo a good investment, although you could still get lasered from the rear unless you have two.

If anyone wants more info' go to http://www.pistonheads.com and check the 'speed plod and the law' forum. I think someone was prosecuted recently for using one, gonna check it out in a min.

i think what would make the Target LRC 100 harder to declare illegal

is unlike the old jammer YOU OPERATED IT so i suppose the police could say

you were interfering with their signal, (id argue their signal is mine when its on my car lol) whereas the new one is "active" all the time and switches itself on and off, also its the same thing that opens your garage door/gates etc

so who are they to say im not opening my garage from a mile away lol,

re the rear zapping trevz, id hope in that case the road angel would cover me, as its 360% coverage, as it gets slightly expensive to cover your arse with rear jammer as well:(

anyway id rather be done for obstruction than instant ban

There's no escape from this one except the jammer. Detectors are a total waste of time for this. I got collared from half a mile away in an instant on the motorway even tho on the brakes as soon as the van was spotted. Its gona be hard to find anybody without points soon. Heck you need this jammer both ends and its hardly something to swap easily to other cars. Plus if you ever were to get stopped you can forget any thought of a warning or sympathy I think they could easlily impound your car.

I wonder if it went to court whether it would stand.

Perverting the course of justice is to me is when some one lies to the police to try stop them convicting some one. If some one is found not guilty of a charge could you some one be charged with perverting when there is no law which has been broken.

So what I am saying, is can they charge you for perverting the course of justice when there is no proof that you where actually braking the law, there is no criminal activity. The police are saying the jammer is stopping people from being convicted but there was no proof that the driver was braking the law.

And as far as I know, Radar Jammers do not Jam the speed guns. They merley confuse it. A signal is detected by the "Jammer" and the the unit sends a lazer signal back. The speed gun gets confused when it recieves 2 signals and causes an error. It does not block the signal, it infact remains untouched.

having read through all those threads im still not convinced its been proved illegal, and the guy who did go to court deserved it, as he COMPLETLY jammed the signal, thats not the idea of the jammer, it picks up a signal, you slow down and then switch it off and enable them to then get a reading, no provable offence committed, i certainly wouldnt let magistrates decide if i was guilty, mr butcher baker and failed society member sat on that bench aint got a clue, id be heading for the crown court for trial

where they would have to charge you under some proper law

Perversion of the course of justice takes the form of one of three acts:

Fabrication or disposal of evidence

Intimidating a witness or juror

Threatening a witness or juror

can't see any of the above applying?

I read that too.

The idea of a radar jammer is to give you time to slow down when it is set off. The ones I have read about, actually do that and will only fire off once before resetting, which takes a few mins because it needs to cool down.
