Any thoughts/opinions/experiences on using Slick 50 in a Zed, both in the engine (N/A) and gearbox (auto) ???

What would be the recommendation on the best oil to use???

Do a search.....I think you find the answer is negative!

Castrol RS 10W-60 is a popular choice

It the slipperyest substance known to man. And I know for a fact that a fair amount of ammateur rally drivers swear by it.

Hell if you can go from one end of Aus to teh other with no oil in the maotor with just a slick 50 treatment it cant be all bad.

Dont do it mate - I think it uses teflon - which Dupont owns the patent, they tried to ban people using Teflon for engine treatment but failed. Try checking Google for stories aplenty on why not use this stuff.

Does anyone know anything about a product called Extralube ZX1? and I dont mean of the KY type :nelson:

QVC flog this stuff and reckon its great for reducing friction and you can supposedly put it in your petrol and rad. I once had an old 4.0 Jag with a bit of a rattly engine and stuck some of this stuff in and it went immediately quiet and smooth.

Anyone know if that contains teflon?

Cant give you the exact link, but just follow the links- car care/engine treatments http://www.qvcuk.com/ukgasp/frameset.asp?dept=ukHG

Yup, don't do it.......

As for oil, use a decent fully synthetic with a high visco of at least 40. Castrol 10w60 is probably too thick for an N/A as engine temps are lower than a TT. Also it depends on condition and mileage of your engine. A decent oil should contain the essential ingredients from any additive anyway ;)

my UK ZX TT has covered 70K and the engine is quiet and smooth - I use Millers CRX 5W40 (£25-ish for 5 litres from Mike Feeney on traders forum, highly recommended) or Shell Helix synth 5w40.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Asked this question a few months back and nothing but negative reply's. I was told to experiment with oils to solve any tapping. Which did solve the problems i had.

Oops, N/A didn't spot that, so agree with Richard slightly lower viscosity for that.

I've heard that ZX1 is suppossed to be OK, however I don't really go for this additive idea myself. Oil companies spend millions deveoping their oil, and if a simple additive like those sold was that good, surely it would be in there to start with?

Or is it all a big conspiricy?! A mate told me that a company (Shell I think) got their oil so good that they found zero engine wear after running a test engine for 500000 miles without changing it, but then decided to keep it under wraps as it would end the servicing business.

The old zx1 helped me rattly old jag and I guess helped me sell it easier, but like you guys, I think I'll just feed my zed millers and she's pretty quiet so dont need to fix what aint broke

The old zx1 helped me rattly old jag

i think the difference in most old jags m8

they sufferered from rattly timing chains, which slick 50 and other oil additives did help to quiten

When i was talking to Matt (SgtC on here) he was telling me about this stuff called Activ8 that was demo'd at a bike show with quite impressive results.

I have a look into it and the garage down the road from my work are stockists, wondering whether to try some now.

Heres the Activ8 site,

looks like that stuff has no solids so pretty safe. Give it a go and let us all know how you get on. ;)

£5 of oil "treatment" followed by £750 labour to swap and ~£1k for a new engine...

Just aint worth it!!!

Um i put a product like that in my daily drive, new astra coupe turbo. Turbo went the next day!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oooooooooh i put this in my NA on the last oil change and dont seem to be any probs.
