Campaign to Reduce UK Petrol Prices - a rip-off at 80p a litre

this mit work just had it emailed to me

Thought it might be worth a try!

We are going to hit close to 89p a litre by the summer.

Want petrol prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent,

united

action.

Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy petrol on a certain day"

campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just

laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves

by

refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it

was a

problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can

really

work. Please read it and join in! Now that the oil companies and the

OPEC

nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP

at

77p -80p, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS

control the marketplace not sellers. With the price of petrol going up

more

each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to

see

the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not

purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two

biggest

oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP. If they are not selling

any

petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce

their

prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Esso and

BP

petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp out on me at

this

point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions

of

people!! I am sending this note to a; lot of people. If each of you send

it

to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at

least

ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message

reaches

the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION

consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten

friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it

goes

one level further, you guessed it... .. THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.(and not

buy

at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email

out

to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people

could

conceivably be contacted within the next 8days!!! I'll bet you didn't

think

you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make

a

difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

PLEASE

HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE RANGE

Action:

It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your

petrol

at Shell, Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons (75p) Jet etc. i.e. boycott BP

and

Esso.

The problem with this is that:

I buy my petrol at Shell

I already feel a bit guilty about doing that because Esso are pretty much the only ones standing up to all this Global Warming *****cks and I feel that I should really be supporting them. I certainly don't want to join the Greens by campaigning to boycott them! :nono:

It's not the petrol companies that we should be boycotting anyway as their cut is relatively low and they don't have a great deal of scope for reducing their prices.

It's the European governments who take the massive cut and the only way to hit them where it hurts is to boycott *all* petrol and the only way to do that is to have another fuel protest! :hyper:

I've already started. Havent driven my car in over a month.

I think you've missed my point or I wasn't very clear. ;)

The Greens hate Esso/Exxon because they campaign against the nonsense the Greens spout about Global Warming. On that basis, I feel I ought to support Esso, NOT the Greens. :slap:

well aaaaaaaaaaaalrighty then. thought you was promoting tree hugging or something for a min ;) :D

Ditto :D

its not the oil companies or opec thats the problem its the fvckin tax levvied on it by the fookin politicians!!!!

The oil companies have to invest billions to locate and research oil, then build rigs and drill for it, then pipe/ship it and refine and deliver it....ALL FOR A FEW PENCE A LITRE..

The Government however does F**K ALL AND TAKES APPROX 60P A LITRE IN TAX.

So exactly who deserves and works for that money. There is no way anyone can blame oil companies for the price of petrol. You need to look at our own governments who have exploited their own people for years.

Paul

Well said Paul- perhaps we should get all the Zeds, scoobys, supras etc and park outside the commons for a week blaring rave music and waving our Optimax flags

THis dont by your petrol on 1 day of the week happened in the 80s and it was successfull

You need to make them compete for their business by ONLY buying from the cheapest garage in the area. If that means long queues then so be it. Only then will the others put down their prices in order to get some business. Unfortunately, there are two problems with this, firstly they make bugger all profit anyway due to the excessive government taxes and secondly they operate and effective cartel by synchronising their prices throughout geographic areas - we're screwed !

I could cope with a few days off work due to fuel protests, I think it is the only thing that will make any difference. As said above this is all due to massive government taxes, I got back from France today and thier petrol is cheaper then our (not a lot admitedly) but their diesel is much cheaper, 0.80 Euro / litre, so it isn't OPEC or Esso. It is Tony and Gordon. BTW the plane ride back costs 7 Euro's, no tax on their fuel, and I bet challenger tanks don't pay fuel duty either.

yeah fuel protests are ok, my motorbike does 45mpg so i would just ride that for a week

its not the oil companies or opec thats the problem its the fvckin tax levvied on it by the fookin politicians!!!!

yeah, but boycotting one supplier will put pressure on the government, as the hassle it cud cause wud be massive. Especially if different companies were targetted at different times.
