Yeh got mine weighed last year for the power id thingy and it was 1800kg with a full tank of fuel oh and me so i no doubt i added a fair few kg's!!

John havent you removed large sections of your car - hicas, aircon etc?

Mine weighed 1650kg last year after the kit was fitted but I've changed from auto to manual and removed the spare wheel and lots of other small items since.

Thats a shock TBH,A SWB Manual against a wide arched kitted auto and it's only 140kg

Suprised me as well, then again mine has got about 200kg of mdf in the boot!!

Me too, but a tank of fuel is about 40kg ish. I bet the skylark brakes add 20kg too. I know our weighbridge is accurate to 5kg.

It's still nearly 9% though.

Guess I'd better go strip out that ABS and Air con ....

120KG more lardy with me sitting in it :D:D:D

I take it that is WITHOUT you in it Macca!!!!!

.............i'll get me towel!!! :x:

Mine actually gets lighter with me in it, as i wieigh less than the air i displace in it!!!! :) :)

When you've chucked all these people in the lake I think you should make them race to the other side and give the loser a kicking too :mac1:

I got carried half way to the lake last year so I'm excluded this time! :D

Seems odd how there's such a difference in weight between all these cars.

For reference then... according to http://www.importdriver.com.au/Coupe_Targa.htm

SWB 1470

TT 1580

(I think these are the dry figures)

We were talking about weight reduction after JapFest the other day... anything to add to this list of expendables?

Rear seats

Aircon

HICAS

PRVR

AIVs

Toolkit and tyre

Alloys (probably hard to find any over 17" that are lighter than stock 16s)

Lighter spoiler (I'd do that last otherwise you'll have even more understeer because the c of g will move forward)

And relocate battery (might help cooling too)

Are aftermarket coilovers and dampers likely to be lighter or heavier than stock?

Is an aftermarket radiator likely to be lighter?

You forgot the EGR ;) ABS could be considered too...

Big savings are alloy bell disks and titanium springs too. If you get remote resevoir dampers you'll reduce the unsprung weight quite considerably.

For light wheels, BBS LM (see my rides).

how much lighter is the alloy underdrive pulley?

lightened flywheel?

No much in absolute terms but worth much more as they are rotating masses.

1001 now ;)

remove rear seat belts -2kg

boot blind (a few kgs)

wood panels in boot

bitumen in floor if desperate

replace stock seats with lighter ones.

tool kit

spare wheel & jack (replace with AA membership/tyre inflator and tyre foam)

take off stock spoiler

possibly get a c/fibre boot lid with glass substitute

lose electric windows if obsessive.

lightweight alloys

s/steel zorst (lighter than mild steel stock one ?)

lose cats

lightweight flywheel

underdrive pulley

lightweight stereo, if at all (no MDF or big amps/sub enclosures)

c/fibre bonnet

FRONT seats good point. How much dollar is a Sparco or whatever?

Didn't occur that cats saved weight as well as improved flow, but guess so!

CF bonnet isn't really worth it is it, given that the stock is ally anyway...

Doors weigh shedloads, let alone the leccy windows, does anyone make a replacement door?

One peice carbon fibre prop shaft will surely save some weight.

Are lighter after market hubs available? They heavy!!!

Someone tell me about AIV's please? Can u only get rid of them if you decat?

try jaylox - he setup a website selling zed parts including c/fibre panels.

see NEperformance on this site.

converting to soft-top wud prolly save a fair bit, and wud look cool if done well. the car is solid enough to cope with being a softtop so I've heard.

yup, a shocking amount approx 10kgs ;)

u cud also lose the metal bonnet catch and replace with string or summat. wud only save a few 100gs tho'

wish we had a breakdwon of a Zed in parts with their masses - surely someone breaking one cud do this ?

Just had a look on Z1 motorsport. They do a steel 1 piece prop shaft. Half the weight of original. Fairly cheap too.

Think i might just get one, was gonna have to replace the centre bearing anyway.

does ne1 do a lightweight battery, as they are heavy buggers ?

Jus install a kickstart and you won't need it ! ;)
