As I have to strip the shifter down to get to the bushes soon, I was think about getting one of these.

Anyone got one? It it much better than standard throw?

Any downsides (i.e. greater wear on linkages etc)?

I wondered this too and had a mixed reaction when asked. People say if feels good as the shifter hardly has to move change gear, which means you think you have put it in gear but you haven't

I also heard that you cant change gear too quickly. Like the comon problem with the 300zx, when you change gear too quick, it caused the box to crunch. With a short shift you change gear faster natrually because there is less movment between changes and you could find your syncomesh crunching a few times.

The throw I'm sure probably feels odd to start with but you'd get used to it after a while.

I know if I rush the 1st to 2nd shift at the moment, there is a slight crunch from the synchro. If you take your time a little, there's no noise at all.

A bit worried that a short shifter will emphasize this and cause more problems than it's worth.

I agree, but the gear changes I do with a normal shift are restricted in speed because of the grinding, so a short shift doesn't mean you can change gear faster. However, you said the bushes need changing anyway so not pay a few wxtra ££ and get the short shift just for the feel.

Might as well then :D

More expense....well and truely bitten by the mod bug at the moment and I can't afford to be!

No problems with mine at all, crunching or otherwise :)

Very short throw, quick changes !

Can't compare it to the standard one though as Luke put the short throw stick straight on when he converted it from auto for me !

I get crunching from time to time with quick gearshifts on a standard shifter...

You may be able to change -down- faster. Lighter flywheel allows faster upshifts... can't remember if you've got one of them!

I think I could block change from 5th to 3rd quicker with a short shifter...

Why is the standard Z set up like a bag of thick porridge ? such a great all round car apart from that....

I think it's as discussed above - to stop people going through cones like a knife through butter. Of course if Nissan had built them out of something other than butter we'd all be better off.
