I am going to take the front disks off the car this weekend and get them skimmed, had enough of my teeth chattering when i brake!

Just wondering how much can he take off i.e what is the minimum thickness it can go?

It's a 1990 Z32 TT, Manual.

28mm is the minimum, or should I say it is on my Brembos, it's stamped on the side.

I would suggest looking for the cause of the problem rather than just skimming the disks.

If there is juddering, then it could be a warped caliper, tension rod bushes need replacing or even the pistons on the caliper sticking.

I am sure someone with more knowledge will help you out.

there is a link on TTnet regarding having the rotors skimmed on the car

rotor turning

Be aware that when the yanks say turning, they mean it in the engineering sense, as in turning on a lathe :) HTH

I do not believe in the principal of turning the disks on the car. If you skim disks in a lathe then they will run perfectly true that is a fact. When cars are built the disks are not re-skimmed after being fitted to the car, another fact.

If you skim a disk on the hub you are machining an error into your disk to compensate for run out in your hubs.

Best way is to

skim in lathe, make sure hub runout is not excessive and thourghly clean, make sure caliper pistons are not sticking and fit new pads. Then you should have no problem.
