I'd stay clear of Dot 5. I think it's silicon based so the whole system needs to be flushed out. And it needs to be changed very often ( I have a mate who uses it in a race motorbike and he changes it ever race).

Get a decent Dot 4, try Castrol Racing if you want a high boiling point.

I could be wrong. I'm no expert.

Hi all

just got my 3g front discs and pads - they will be fitted next week at service time :hyper:

So what brake fluid do you recommend for the ZX?

Richard :)

Ask Ay3388. He has some very expensive Castrol brake fluid going for a good price. Its racing spec stuff.

Either DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 as Craig says - dont use DOT 5, its silicone based and not compatible with our system. DOT 4 is probly plenty if you change it once a year to keep it fresh from water.

Castrol SRF is the stuff AY' was doing IIRC.

It's very very good.

Needs changing every 18 months though.

while where on the subject how do you bleed a zed, is it in the normal manner or do you have to bleed the whole abs system aswell, just asking because i want to flush the old out and put some new in, after all its been in there for 10 years!

cheers

Jim

I didn't change the brake fluid in my 200sx S13 for about 6 years.

I got brake fade following a new shape BMW 750 on the motorway, braking down quick from high speeds.

Very nasty! They literally stopped working when I hit 'em about the fifth time.

Most decent garages have a thing which enables them to flush the whole system through from the reservior pretty cheaply.
