i am am interested in buying a zed, manual with leather tt 2+2 around 50K standard as poss in ex condition. what price should i be paying approx, what spec is best? jap or uk, is there a big difference in miles/condition/parts etc as insurance is around 1600 for jap and 800 for uk and experts who can give advice.......................

The premium difference is just the insurance companies being arses, I shopped around all over the place, Tesco, Firebond etc etc etc and Jap quotes were 2x that of a UK car. There is hardly any difference, seat belts on Jap are in a different position to UK and a few other bits are, but generaly they are the same car and the insurance firms inferior knowledge means they whack the premiums up. Made finding a car for me really difficult as I wasnt paying high premiums....feck that!

My guess, Current Market Value for a 50K Manwell TT , standard, about £6-7K dependant on age/condition.......probably get one for £5K though but be careful. Do a search on this site, loads of people have asked the same question as you about buying one, and loads of advice was given.....

HTH :)

DirectLine insurance came up with a good quote and no different in price between UK & Jap spec

You'd be VERY lucky to find a UK car with 50K on the clock. UK manuals are as rare as hen's teeth as well. I'd say a UK car with this sort of mileage would be around 6-7 grand. A Jap import would be a lot cheaper. If you're going to keep the car for a couple of years only, then it'd probably work out cheaper to get the Japanese version and pay a little extra insurance.

I doubt the premium for imports is 100% everywhere though!

Good luck!

Russ.

When I was looking for mine, a jap car was £1200 to insure but a uk car was £540, which made my mind up when it came to buying my car, Took a while to find a uk car, but unluckily it needed two new turbos on it about a month after I bought it, so be carefull when buying as they cost loads to replace. A bill for £2700 was not a happy sight, but I did have a Mongoose de-catted system and new cluth fitted at the same time. By the way took me about 3 months to find a TT manual uk car.

But you saved on insurance ;) Case closed - buy Jap ;)

I think you'd be better off shopping around for a decent insurance quote then trying to find a UK car with the spec you list (especially 50K on the clock). I got cover for £800 on an import TT manwell, and it is unlimited miles and parked on the side of the road in the Gaza Strip area of Southend.

It took me 4 months to find a decent TT manwell and I wasn't descriminating against imports. Manwells are just very rare.

You are joking right!. I was told about 25-30% difference between UK and JSpec....

FECKERS............................. :xxx:

have seen a nice fresh import 50000 miles on a k plate leather 2+2 manual full service and new clutch £5900 is this a good price for such a car ???????????? thanks.....

...sounds like a good price - don't believe the mileage - for some reason all Jap imports seem to have about 50k on the clock when they first arrive - immaterial of age... The interior will give you clues to it's authenticity.

Good luck

Jack

...oh and it's not the cost of insurance you should be worrying about, its the mpg.

thanks jack,

i am okay with the mpg was thinking about rx7s also 11mpg have heard the 300zx is around 18mpg at best ???

sorry average

...I only mention it as mines a normally aspirated Z which is a good thing as I do about 15k to 18k miles a year in it - and I hear horror stories about TT mpg, but normally they reflect the use the car is being put to. Also it took me 15 mins to dispell RX7 ownership once I'd read the 14mpg average...

was thinking about a n/a myself as i do around the same miles what is the insurance difference, dont you miss the 2 turbines though?
