I just had my standard import stereo replaced with a decent, new Sony system.

I asked before hand if there would be any gaps around the unit and was told no. It's been fitted and there are quite big gaps as the car's an import so they can't use the plastic surround which goes at the front of the stereo.

Is this true?

Is there any way of getting a stereo to fit properly into a Jap 300?

Mine's a pioneer unit, it fits perfectly. The plastic ''flange'' :p that

comes with it sits behind the dash unit nicely. The head unit

has to be screwed to the metal bracket in the dash, most head units have

several holes for this purpose try fixing it a little further into the

dash, then maybe the plastic ''flange'' will tuck in behind to make

a neat job of it.

Hopefully this will make some sense to you!

Mines an import too.

There is no difference between UK and import dash cover as far as I know.Sounds like a lame excuse.

LOL, it was the easiest Radio I ever fitted, takes about 10 mins MAX

I smell Cowboy Shit. There is no difference between a UK spec Jap Spec or USA spec on that part of the dashboard. Take it back and tell them to sort it.

No, My Blaupunkt head unit surround won't fit either. Looks like some do and some don't.

Russ.

I have a kenwood in mine, first mounted it in the plastic of the centre console with the decorative surround, then I got hold of the metal bracket which screws behind the centre console and mounted it in that, there was a gap, but I have a piece of trim which fits around the radio and behind the console , conceals the gap. Think I have another lying about if you want it??

My Apline surround doesn't fit either......

my Sony surround won't fit the S13.

Hmmm, fitting my new stereo tonight and the surround doesn't fit! So I guess it comes down to the headunit! Tried fitting it within different positions and still no joy.

My Kenwood one don't fit either :( But I don't let it get to me :D

My JVC unit fitted ok using the stock mounting brackets although there was a little gap between the stereo facia and the dash opening. The trim piece that came with the stereo wouldn't fit as it is designed to be used when the head unit sits proud of the dash when the sleeve supplied with it is used.

However, with careful use of a stanley knife I trimmed the excess plastic from the surround until it fitted. Looks fine now

Richard ;)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

SORTED!

I went back and asked them nicely to sort it and they did. It looks great now.

The only problem now is it's too good for the speakers so I'll have to get them replaced too! But there's no rush for that.

Thanks for the advice people.

Hey Craig, does your radio have a 'Reeeeeewind' button on it? :D

He's "proper bo" this lad.

Yeah I've got this problem as well. Both my Sony units cant have the trim fitted, but I'm now thinking of mounting it using the cars cage behind (as mentioned above) instead of the standard iso cage supplied with the unit.

But as mine is a motorised drop down panel, will it fully open?

Yeah, it does a bit but fitted this late last night and then went to bed. Will have another look at it tonight - must be something you can do. Otherwise its not that bad!

Cheers James, I'll do this then, just gota put it on the list of jobs to do ;) This list is getting bigger and bigger, lol :D

Fitted mine the same James, and I can't get the surround on either. Will have a look later today and see if the surround will go under the facia plate.

Simon.
