bit of a silly one this....have discovered my Z didn't come with the locking wheel nut key, so i have to remove them now with minimal damage! have heard a few ways to do this....has anyone here actually done it successfully?

yeah but you may want to get some new studs first.

Then take alll the other bolts off and drill the center out with a 13mm.

Depends what type you have.

If it's one of the solid ones and not the type with rotating collars then you can use an old socket thats just slightly too small to fit over the nut and hammer it on then undo it with a breaker bar.

I did this a few years ago when i bought a car that only had one lock nut and no key.

Or go to a local motorfactors and pick yourself up the thieves latest favorite tool (previously the £20 car breaking in kit :(). Its basically a socket with a reverse thread inside it - as you unscrew it, it tightens into the wheel nut. Fantastic tool, and can be bought for ~£12...

Also just found this:

http://www.dynomec.co.uk/ ;) Unsure of cost though...

Yeah but always use your imperial sockets in case you can't get the ****er out of it again :D Imperial sockets are as much use as erm.....erm... something not very usefull....

whats a mcgard nut mark? all i know is that they are not the spinning/key variety, they are the fixed ones, and they came in a box with a "motorsport wheels" logo on it.

I had to send off to Germany for a McGard locking nut key when I lost mine. It came very quickly, but it was a real pain. Then a few weeks later I saw they sold McGard wheel nuts in HALFORDS!!

Pauliezx, there are two types, the most popular is round barrel shaped, if you look at the end, as if you were looking end on, they have a "wriggly line" on the end where the key fits.

If you do a search you will find some to compare, these are very hard, and my locking nut removers dont even scratch them. I do have a selection of keys, and I have been lucky in the past and found one to fit.

i don't think they are mcgard types then, so it's going to be trial and error to get them off! ATS said they would do it for me, but they would have to break them off and possibly damage the wheels....

I called into a Volvo dealer once and they were cutting the wheel off because the owner had lost his key, Mcgard are fitted to Volvo's..
