Hi guys,

Further to my problems with the autobox, I've been advised by the garage repairing it that the cooler is totally blocked. They've tried flushing it out without success.

I know there is a known problem with this on imports, but I now have to work out what to do about it. They are offering a replacement cooler fitted for £135 quid (I'm told it's the standard sized item for the UK car.) This is a modification I would have had to do, but is it worth going with this now, or should I try the engine oil cooler upgrade instead? Looking a the z centre site, I see the auto oil uses the old engine oil cooler, whilst the engine oil uses the new cooler when replaced. I can see this may be the better option, but the timescales involved may prohibit me taking it.

Does anyone know how the cooler they're offering compares in terms of performance to the old imported one, and how much of a benefit is the increased capacity for the engine oil cooler?

Lots of questions I know, but any replies will help.

Thanks,

Simon.

The standard import oil cooler is virtually non-existent, anything is an improvement and if it's the cooler I'm thinking of then it will be about a 20 fold improvement.

the kit from zcentre is only for uk cars, it will not work with imports, imports do not have an engine oil cooler.

Hi John sorry to disagree but the Jap spec car`s do have an oil cooler for the engine oil but is about half the size of the UK spec one.

On the subject of using the old engine oil cooler as your tranny cooler, is that wise? the cooler may be full of god knows what? The last one I did for a customer this way I spent more time cleaning out the cooler than fitting the thing!

A new cooler is the way to go £100 to £150 is what I would concider a good price for a cooler from a non 300 specialist, anymore and the dealer is overcharging.

Many thanks Jeff and John, the kit on z centre does specify for Jap imports. I decided to go with what he's offering for the very reason Jeff has given. ( I haven't forgotten your wheel Jeff, but things have gone pretty pear shaped since I last saw you. Please bear with me.)

This site is so worth joining for the expert advice given. £20 for a year. Can you really argue it isn't worth it??

Simon.

John,

I've been through this too!! I can now categorically confirm that import non turbo's DO NOT! have any oil cooler fitted, and as Jeff stated correctly, the turbo's cooler is smaller on imports.

Academic now guys as I'm now £1000 lighter (alloys fund   ) but back on the road with a rather impressive looking cooler strapped to the front of my car.
