cold starts

Just as a matter of fact is this normal:;

My Z on initial start up shoots to 2000rpm but is accompianied by rattling which dissappears after a couple of seconds (valve clearances maybe) it then idles at 2K until it's warm. But to me also it warms up very quickly like about after a mile say it's reading warm ,gauge indicates just below halfway all the time..Renewed the thermostat when I replaced the water pump a month ago. Just curious if this is normal???

Featured Replies

mine is the same. Its fine in summer but the idle stays high a little bit longer than it needs to in the winter

The warming up of the watertemp after about a mile or so sounds pretty normal.(especially when reading from the crap standard temp-gauge)

This doesn't mean the oil/engine are at the right temp yet ! (according to my oiltemp-gauge it takes at least 15 minutes before the oil is at the right temperature)

Though the high idling is weird.

Sounds a bit like a dodgy temp-sensor

If you do an ECU diag, does it come up with an error ?

Me too. 1500rpm immediately then falling. Bit of tappet clatter on start up but I guess that goes with the mileage and 0-40 synthetic oil.

Mine to. i start and 2000rpm but that drops away to normal idel pretty quickly, wam up is about 15 mninutes according to my oil temperature aswell.
