Cleaning spark plugs

I want to give my plugs a clean and i'm not sure the best method. My car has been missing all over the place and I had to replace a 4 week old set of platinum plugs because unburnt fuel had coated them in carbon and crap. (It's a long story)

Anyway, I was thinking maybe just petrol and a hard scrub with a tooth brush or contact cleaner and a scrub...?

Any suggestions?

if there badly fouled then i would recommend binning them & buying a new set im afraid. you could try cleaning them with carb cleaner if the deposits are light, but make sure you dont damage the porcelin on the centre electrode!!

Best way is on a lathe with a circular wire brush attachment (or slow speed power drill fixed to a bench), but make sure there are no metal wire bits left in the gap after cleaning and before refitting, also recheck gap !

thats actually the worst way you could do it!! the wire brush will bamage the insulation & can cause the spark to track down & misfire.

I was always under the impression that platinum plugs should not be cleaned, just replaced

Something to do with damaging the small electrodes or removing the platinum coating?

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
