Help, dead on turning ignition key ??

has happened twice now.

stopped for petrol, didn't lock door but had keys in me pocket, went and paid, came back put immobiliser key in, then ignition key - nothing, did same again, nothin again. locked and unlocked doors from inside using remote, nothing. thought it may not be starting as hot (after 110 mile motorway journey, but only 90/100 ish + temp gauge normal) so got out and opened bonnet, stared at engine blankly and then got back in car tried again - started.

And then again last night on the way home, although this time didn't raise the bonnet, just kept trying.about 10 times then it worked

the same lights come on when it fails as when it works and when it starts it's running and firing up perfectly.

I suppose the question is really whether the z has something to stop the engine starting if its too hot or whether this point to my immobiliser key wearing out ? (small black plastic electronic key with three contact behind a slidey sleave - triangular logo on it) Has this happened to anyone else ?

Hmmm, Z's and alarms/immobilisers...yeah...know exactly where you're coming from on that one!

Mine started to play me up which is why when it comes back Bob is gonna get a call to strip out the crap that's in there now and install a Clifford Concept 600 ASAP!

Came out of work, went to Tesco and got out, armed alarm. Went into Tesco, came out tried to disarm...NOTHING! Wouldn't let me in, tried walking round the car pointing the key-fob at every inch of the car...still wouldn't let me in!

Then proceeded to walk(with shopping) about 2 miles back to my digs to get the spare key-fob. Walked back to Tesco(without shopping...DOH!) and when I got to the car I thought I'd just try the key-fob that wouldn't work again...CAR OPENED! Christine Z!

P.S. Sorry, left a couple of important bits out there! LOL! Loads of swearing took place during this frakar...almost got to the point of taking a stick to it John Cleese stylee out of Fawlty Towers...that's how pissed off I was at the time!

My friendly local Nissan dealer is real happy to make me wait until the end of october and part with 394 squid + vat for a new ptu......mmm, maybe will get some contact cleaner and find out where the little bugger is.........may be you know ?

PTU is mounted near the top left of the belt cover (top of the engine, left hand side looking at it from the front, snuggling just under the boost hoses).. Has a metal heatsink on the top of it.. Hard to miss.

Right for starters it sounds to me like you are being completely and utterly shafted mate! Luckily for you I've just pulled the receipt from Middlehurst out of my jacket pocket for the one thing they managed to do properly on my car. Fit the new PTU, so 394 squid plus VAT is way over. I suggest you ring around a few and if the price seems to be the same quote these figures from the only Official Skyline dealer in the UK and ask why the price has suddenly shot up since last December...WANKERZ!

Part used: 2202058S01

Description: Trignition(Power Transistor Unit)

Quantity: 1

Value: 271.00 inc. VAT

You could change this in about 2 minutes tops...not kidding either!

Nelson are just a law unto themselves...feckers!

P.S. edited coz I worked it out wrong, the value on my receipt is inc. VAT which means it's even cheaper...£271 all in.

HE HE HE AARONS wheels are on backwards.....

If you still have grief go to one of the breakers around and get a second hand one, but that is not ideal, courtesy nissan rocks bigtime.

I know it's childish but...

"Hey Az mate, yer wheels are on back to front!"

ROFL

P.S. How do you tell, been staring at that pic over and over, both look the same to me! DOH!

Too small to tell really in that pic, but if you check the pic in my rides section it's easy to see...

They're no longer on backwards, since I had the S03's fitted.. Just haven't taken any updated pics because my digi cam is.. well.. shite!

Easy to tell , he keeps mentioning it lol

The crank angle sensor could also be the cause. Run an ECU diagnostic and see if any codes pop up. If no codes show, pull off the connectors and clean off any corrosion.

Later,

cheers, just posted a message to see if anyone local may be able to help out with a diagnostic..... think will clean up the contacts anyway, thanx

Prob could also be the starter or soleniod if it doesn't turn over at all.
