Why you need new hubs for 17 inch wheels?

when my rear near side wheel miraciously sheared off, Latz put on different sized studs and wheel nuts as an emergency measure ( i had to take 2 days off work so i could have a driveable car again)

i really don't want to re do the studs again as it originally had 17" on when i bought them, they were replaced with 16" then wheel nuts sheared off, so i'd just like to start again

i'm a tad paranoid about wheels

Ahh got ya.

When you do your turbos, if you are a little short on cash, get the stock turbos reconditioned. It will save you some cash and make the spec a little better.

But you still need to pay some on to take them off and put them on.

oh i didn't know i could get them reconditioned cool thanks for that Stuart ;)

you know who will be doing this!!!....Dufflecoat.. does he do turbos too, he does everything else

My brother has bought a few reconditioning kits for his turbos and done them himself, I think their only about £50 but its a matter of being able to do it yourself. And of course you cant spin test etc but the last one he did is still going strong running about 1bar on an RST.

There are a few places who can do it. I can get you a few phone numbers if you wish.

Turbos can be reconditioned as long as the housings are OK. When I sent mine off the person doing them phoned me and told me whether they can be done. I was OK and most are.

You may want to get new ones. I cant remember the exact costs but I think it was around £700 to get them reconditioned with 360º BB kits. You are better off asking them. I went a little further and got other stuff on it too.

really not worth it IMO, as JWT 500's, or Smithy's turbos arnt much more than that anyway.

JWT 500 are only reconditioned stock. They dont even have 360º BB in them.

JWT are £1000 plus shipping of a very heavy object and insurance for expensive equipment plus duty and tax, and then you have to pay for your turbos to be sent back to the US.

I got official Garrett new wheels, shafts, 360º BB, step gaps on both turbos for less than a grand.

Sport 500's might be stock housings but there's no way the internals are the same, chack out the dyno charts - they're much stronger at the top end.

They're not BB though, 530's are.

The real issue here is the warranty one!

YOu can buy new tubs and then get some favoured nechanic to fit them then have problems not too many miles down the road - cos turbo failure rate is higher than you would like it to be. I spent a good long while talking to loads of people (on here and elsewhere) before I decided to go for the 'safest' option in terms of purchase and fitting. I decided on Turbo Technics Garrett refurbs, which you can part ex your own tubs against for around £1500 the pair. Their stage II spec, which means 360 degree thrust bearings and good for around 1.1 bar.

If you have your own refurbished, returned and refitted, I think your engine will be out of the car for between 4 - 6 weeks.

Oh and yes, - expect to pay at least £700 for the labour for all of this!

Having your own re-done is quite an easy option these days Di, most companies can turn em round in 72 hours, even turbo technics favour this route when i spoke with them, however there were 2 members here last year who wern't very happy with them when a fault with the turbo meant them being replaced at some expense, it really can be the luck of the draw unfortunately as new items can break, if yer want any further advice feel free to shoot me a mail.

cheers

Owen Developments near Oxford/Abingdon (Kingston Bagpuiz) are both a precision engineering company who refurbish turbos, and have a performance garage who can fit them. The work is always top notch, as you would expect of a place that does work for Williams. Speak to Mark, he is an absolute Wizard and has worked on numerous Zeds. I'll dig out the number if you're interested.

It's also a good place for rolling road work as they have two.

LOL, turbos either have 360 deg thrust OR ball bearing race!! ;)

they are deffo uprated from stock though!!
