I'm new to these beasts, but pleased with the auto TT I've got. However, I have found that if the road's even slightly wet the back end is REALLY twitchy. If I go round a mini roundabout and do anything other than feather the throttle, the back is zipping out from under me. The car has the standard 16" alloys and Toyo tyres (don't know much about these). Is this problem the nature of the beast or are them some things I can do to help?

nature of the big bhp rear wheel beastie i am afraid. Only one option learn to enjoy the slide!!!!!

Very true, and John never ever if possible take it out if its snowed at all, even with just a dusting of the stuff on roads, lethal.

Some tyres are better than others, but it's all true, rear wheel horse power and fat tyres means you have four wheel steering!

Is it an import? If it is, it could be that you still have jap rubber.

I know mine did and was real fun when i was croozin round town until that is i changed me tyres then she started grippin which is even more fun :D

Pete

Thats true about Jap tyres, I had an MR2 with Jap tyres, (Dark Angel) a Morris Minor could beat me cornering in the wet with those things.

John

Yep, if it still has Jap rubber you want to change that asap. They will be of a very hard compound and just a nightmare in the wet.

i had the same problem, changed my tyres to pirelli p6000's and can now drive as fast in the wet as in the dry!!!

has anyone got Racelogic Traction control unit what are they like in the wet?

Superb mate! One of my favourite mods so far.. ;)

Can vouch for that. Best mod I ever did!

yeh, will just take you a while to get used to the throttle having two purposes... accelerator and steering.

But tyres make all the difference. I've been few lots of makes. You don't need to go for super bridgestone F1 300 quid boots. My favourites are fulda extremos or 3000s. THough falkens are good too. last a decent time. Nice and grippy in dry and grippy and progressive in the wet.

If it's like jap import bikes... they do so little millage, the tyres go hard, and have FA grip though, so might well be that.

Do you think it improved your 0-60 time what was it 5.6? to ? dry times

I really want the unit but at mo can't afford it, but they do sponsor people so i'll send a sponsorship form off to them to see what they can do for me.

Really? I've got P6000s on a lesser car and they're total bobbins in the wet, compared to the ContiSports previously.

I had a similar problem when I got my ZX. It had new-ish Avons all round.

I now have Goodyear Eagle F1s all round and there is no slip/slide in the wet at all

Richard :smw:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I have F1s on the front and Goodrich on the back and I have to boot it to step the rear out - so I boot it! :D

well, it would be rude not to!

the only thing faster than a z is its back end?or another z

deffo go for RLTC. great system once its configured. adjustable so you can still have fun too ;)

Yep - still Jap rubber so I've changed me boots. Possibly old tyres as well. Will know what it's like when it rains again (in about five minutes). Thanks for the sensible advice.

No problem. I got the advice from here neways, and thats why i paid up and joined the club! As most peeps say " best £20 i spent on the car"

:D

Pete

I would also check the rear shockers, I replaced the rears on mine only to find that it still wouldnt grip round the bends. At £150ish from Jeff you cant go too wrong mate.

:hyper: :hyper: I had the same probs with my import Z, wich i picked up in Jan 2004...it came with 3 yoko's and one bridgestone....removed all of them and fitted bridgestones all round....

wet is no prob now....... :hyper:

What's the width of your rubber John? If they are all 225s still, I would head on down to the place that sells new wider versions.

If you do a search on "Tyres", there should be an abundance of information mate.
