and theres also a grinding coming from the gearbox when im in 1st and 2nd gear almost like a rumble, but its been like this for about 2 years,should i be worried?

If it's first and second only, and it's the same for the fwd and backward gears, it must be related to that pertikler selector fork I would think.

 

But I can't think of anything on the collar that might "rumble" given that it's not on bearings... knackered dogs maybe?

 

Erm, assuming it's a manwell!

Rubber boot at the bottom of the shifter has become dislodged/split ;)

If the gearstick is getting hot from heat transmitted from the gearbox, the internals would more than probably be white hot :D

the rubber boot would be 1st, 3rd & 5th or 2nd & 4th. not 1st 2nd :confused:

Or if its come off down the right hand side, 1st and 2nd are enough to open it up ;)
