Do all Z's do this?

I've had a TT for 6 days :D and I've only opened it up recently as it's been raining a lot. I've noticed a noise, best described as a howl which lasts for about a second when I floor it and then goes while still at full throttle. It's deeper then turbo noise and as I say, it doesn't last all the time the throttle is buried.

I've also notice OEM boost gauge goes right round to last mark, not between 3rd and 4th mark as described in buyers gauge. How can I tell if the car is running more boost then std? Could the noise be related to this, car is std as far as I know.

Is there anything wrong or am I an automotive hypochondriac?

Is it the goosehonk noise?!

Something to do with airfilters?

Sorry not much help - someone will add more...

From memory goosehonk is not a bad description. I haven't had a chance to see if the airfilter is std or not.

Is it normal??

I think the only way to get rid of it was with Bov's I think.

mine has started doing it

ever since i put an apexi induction on it

Definitely check your air filter, I have a K&N fitted and I get a drone off it as it tries to suck small animals in on country roads..............maybe a goose!!?

Apparently the standard guages are not that reliable in terms of accuracy so I wouldn't rely too heavily on them. Have you any reason to believe the car has been changed from standard? There are no obvious boost controllers or sometimes a couple of small screw holes on the dash or a bit of velcro?

I've had goose honk since I put on M's induction kit.........I have Blitz Bov's.......if I floor it it's not there, but at mid range it 'appears'.........

What's the cure??

Matty.

Howling: Check where in the boost range this noise occurs. If it is at 0psi boost then it is most likely the "goosehonk" and has to do with the recirc valves. You'll most likely have an aftermarket airfilter fitted (take the panel between the headlights off and if it is a cone-shaped affair then you've got an aftermarket filter, if the space is filled with a big black box then you've got the stock airbox). Read somewhere that if you replace the recirc valves with new ones the "honk" goes away - but by bother, it's not loud or harmful to the car.

Boost: this is more difficult to find out. (a) look at the ECU to see if it has an aftermarket chip in it (not recommended if you don't know what you're doing) or (b) try and see if the car has boost jets fitted in the lines feeding the actuators or perhaps it has new hoses plumbed in for a boost controller ... Best to let someone who knows what they're looking for have a look to be sure.

Yep - Goosehonk - its well documented and appears when an aftermarket induction kit is fitted. Only way to get rid is to change to BOVS or maybe brand new Recircs. Doesnt cause any harm.

If your guage is going all the way to the end of the guage you probably have been 'upgraded' along the line - check the ECU to see if its standard or if it is check you may have had 'Boost Jets' installed - theres plenty of info on them and where they are.

Mine has an after market induction kit, and no BOV's and mine has never done it! Weird!

Thank you all for your help. I can stop worrying now and get back to nailing the throttle as often as possible. I didn't realise these things were so fast and chuckable as they fell so large at town speed.
