Have any of you guys replaced your wiring? Mine's pretty screwed and I was considering doing this with a part from the US (left hand drive)

There's a guide here and it's doesn't seem impossible but I am pretty hopeless under the bonet (took me 2 hours to upgrade the air filter). Is this doable or do I sell a kidney and go to Nissan...?

Which part of your wiring is 'screwed' ?

Fitting a new wiring loom is not for the faint hearted .(There i go again talking about hearts !)

I suggest you try and repair the area/s in question. If lots of the loom is in a bad way then i would suggest getting rid of the car before it goes up in smoke !!!

There's a few places in the UK quoting around £700 for a new loom, installed. Not sure what the rate is in Aus, but Maindealers have an awful reputation with 300s over here. We're lucky that there are a few specialist garages looking after the enthusiasts cars.

A lot of guys looking for serious power upgrades replace the loom in the process, so you might sell it on as a project to someone if it really is shot.

Its not *that* hard to replace ffs ;) There's a better guide on TT net I think where you use a dremmel to cut away the sheeting in the bulkhead - this is the major problem as it stops you getting the ECU connector through the bulkhead ;)

You dont have to do that. Its easier to pass all the other connections through the other way ;)

Not with the engine in situ it aint

Ok, well, that was a bit more negitive than I expected... All the little connectors and stuff are cracked and brittle and some are missing so I keep getting injectors that don't work 100% or a plug that will stop firing. I don't want to sell the thing because although it's a bitch it's got a hot body (...starting to sound like my gf...) and everything else is quite good. I really just want to know if anyone has used a LHD loom on a RHD car...? I could get a LHD one off the net and get nissan to install it...

I got one from the states at a very good price. I think that the people in the States buy Japanese ones and put make do. And also according to my book, the US ECU is under the passenger feet like ours, but obviously the passenger is on the other side, but the loom goes along the inside of the car and then out the same hole we use for our loom. I think the only problem we will have, if the loom from the US is a US spec, there may be too much wire on the part inside the car. But looking at it I cant see any problems.

I asked whether it will be hard to put in when I ordered it from the US. I was told they sent a few to the UK and not had any one reply back with problems.

Stuart

Too much wire is fine, it's the chance of having too little that i'm worried about. So you have ordered one and are waiting for it? I will be very interested to see how it turns out, let me know ;)

I posted a pic off all my new parts which arrived about a week ago? Did you not see it? The loom was there. I also found that the loom wireing was also better quality as some wires where thicker and alot of the plug clips where the wire goes into the plug, had tape on them too for extra protection.

Hey Stu, I dunno how I missed that. Your stuff looks f*ing awesome, got me all pumped up to do some mods. Nice choice on the air filter, same as mine :D Did you get a nice little installation guide in Jappenese? Very useful

Stu, did yer get your loom from courtesy ? or else where mate ? toying with the idea as me cars almost about to be a jigsaw puzzle soon anyways

cheers

smithy

Yeah, Stu, how much was the loom mate? Need to know cos I've been asked ;) Still waiting for courtesy to get back with a price...
