hi...had my zed for about 3 months..dont really know much about them so if anyone can help i would be most gratefull..right start from the begining...I decided to put slick 50 in to the car..about a couple of days later when i booted the car it started to smoke...saw the reports on the group so decided to drop the oil out (magnatec) and put in some castrol rs 15-60 ran this for a couple of day (engine still smoked) but the car ran sweet..oil pressure was good basically everything spot on other than smoking when driving hard...Then yesterday it got bad on the way home it stated smoking bad..ie cars behind where having to put there lights on...When i got home it had blown the dip stick out oil every where..oil was coming out around the back of the engine where the breather pipes are and also when you take the oil cap of it looks like a steam engine......I spoke to geff this morning and he cant 100% say until he looks at the engine so basically iam looking to see if there anthing i can do with it or if just forget about it and get a new engine ?..many thanks

Sounds most probably like a problem with the breather system. Do a search on pcv valves. *Could* be a holed piston or damaged rings but I doubt that from your description.

Pete, call me

or subscribe so I can message you :slap:

...head gasket would be my first choice...

good luck

Jack

if head gasket had gone would there be a loss of water..water is fine...smoke is really bad out of the passenger exhaust

as Andy suggests, PCV valves & hoses would be the 1st port of call, if it really is breathing that heavy then rings is a definate possibility :(

I would have thought someone would have mentioned turbo seals? - not sure how that would blow the dipstick out - but it's always good for a load of oil smoke in the exhaust

...head gasket gone between an oil passage way and a cylinder - trust me I'm a doctor... not really, just old... Ask the question what would cause the dipstick to be blown out... It's the main clue...

if engine is blown anybody know where i can get a replacment..jeff is quoting £1500..is this a good price....fitted

...scrap yard in Ipswich has one 93 uk car (just got the leather from it). From memory - didn't look too close - most of the engine was there, some parts missing. I would have thought that you could combine the 2 to make one good one and have loads of spares left over. Mind you, you'd have to be keen, ie broke and have lots of spare time to undertake the task...

I seriously doubt its a question of replacing the engine! For the sake of £50 worth of breather parts, do that first!!!!

if the engine needs to be changed i havent the time or skills to undertake this, i just want to drop it somewhere and let them sort it..the price of geff is just that ..car goes in broken comes out sorted and with guarantee...does anyone know of any other places where this is done

Could a duff breather pipe only cause smoke to come out one side of the exhaust?

If theres a breather each side then that might be easier to find and check against the other

If your radio stopped working would you replace the entire electrical system??? Try the PCVs first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(fingers in ears) Lalalalaa I can't hear you

Patient: Doctor doctor I've got a headache

paul

on ebay there was a 300zx not sure what model (definatlt a 24v v6) but all it needed was a gearbox it was up for £400 but didnt sell ive still got the details if you want them

LMAO!! :D

just in case you missed it the other times:

try the PCV valves & hoses 1st!!

;)

PCV valve problems caused smoking from my engine, I changed them and the smoking went.

and they can cause the dipstick to blow up, they release pressure from the crank, if they arnt working the natural path is through the dipstick.

Hey Andy,

If the direct approach doesn't work then sarcasm is surely wasted, LOL......

Oh, and Pete's Mailbox, just to add my opinion........PCV valves !! :x:

Richard ;)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

andy...thanks....can you tell me where you find the PCV valves & hoses on the engine and how hard are they to fit..?

Andy, Petes lost hin net access and asked me to tell you this.

His car is now misfiring, so he took out one of the plugs on the passenger side and the bottom part of where the plug sparks to has melted away.

These plugs are only a few weeks old he said - they are NGK_r PFR6B11C

Now Hes gonna check the breather pipes as you said but could that cause this problem or is there something else going wrong?

Ta mate

looks a bit more serious now - a compression check would be a good thing to test 1st, followed by a cylinder leakage test if that shows any faults up
