As i now have a twin turbo i'm looking to upgrade the power as much as possible without needing to upgrade any other major mechanics.

So far this weekend i'll be mostly fitting a Mongoose system and Apexi filter.

Is this going to make a difference if so how much?

I'm also interested in using a boost upgrade but nervous about putting any strain on other par

After exhaust and filter would this be the next logical step.

Also what would be the benefit of fitting a dump valve or is this a waste of time???

if you put a free flow exhaust and intake and ecu upgrade you will be reaching the power handling limits of the clutch , with the mods you are doing and an ecu you should be seeing around 370+ at the flywheel or 280+ rear wheel horse power

What is the standard power at the wheels?

What would the ECU upgrade actually do and how much is this?

Alex

Just as an example, mine was a stock UK TT (with Cats and Pre Cats) running opimax, with the induction kit it was 198RWHP, with the addition on a CAT-Back exhaust it was 230RWHP (Different RR) and I am looking for a conservative boost upgrade to 12-13psi which shouldn't do it much harm.

Just bought a boost controller :D

Alex, think there was another thread recently about the benefits/drawbacks of dump valves as opposed to the standard recycling ones.

I think Dump Valves benefit you if your running big boost, most people buy them for the noise though  :D

So a cat back gave you a further 30HP at the wheels???????

If i've a 93 then do i have to put the cats back everytime i go for an MOT and if i get stopped by the fuzz will i also get done?

CAT-Back, means after the CAT's i.e. they have not been replaced so you don't have to put them back because they have not been removed! and like I said it was measured on a different Rolling Road, but it did make an definite improvement.

That's what i'm looking for i put a Mongoose and Apexi on my non turbo and only felt a very slight difference...............sounded good though.

I hope to feel more of a result with the TT

Hi Alex,

Got your cheque for the rings - thanks! Still no confirmation on whether the rings have been dispatched to me yet but will be chasing this up tonight.

Standard power at the wheels is a heavily debated subject with aparently no definitive answer. There are some figures floating about on this forum but there doesn't seem to be a concensus on which are the actual figures.

If you upgrade the boost (either by means of a boost controler or boost jets) then it is highly recommended you upgrade the ECU by fitting a performance chip (like JWT, Mines, SE/Nistec, etc). The upgraded ECU basically ensures that there is enough fueling at higher boost levels. Basically, fuel and timing maps have been altered to allow for higher boost levels - this will prevent you from under fueling and causing detonation to occur (or worse ...)

If you are after a chip then let me know - I can sort you out with a JWT (have both manual and auto chip available). You'll have to get your ECU "socketed" to allow the new chip to be fitted. This is best done by a professional as any mistake can cost you the entire ECU and they are terribly expensive to buy.

Let me know if I can help.

Regards,

What would the cost be for the JWT chip and fitting, could Jeff (Z centre) fit this for me???
Jeff could do although charges about £300 for this service , should be able to get it done cheaper than that if you can't or your struggling to get it socketed give me a shout I have a spare socketed ECU

Ryan

John Dixon on here does an outstanding job IMO ;)

Jeff's doing mine right now (chip n jets). didnt realise he charged that much tho! bloik. should have asked first perhaps. :x:

I'll see the results of the filter and pipes then next month look at the ECU upgrade!!!!

I can see it now in 6 months time............

I'll look at the hybrid turbos boost and Nos this month then........

And after you have done all that, especialy after getting it chipped ,take it to somewhere like Thor-Racing,becouse you may have probs you cant hear or see,as i found out :( , :)

Did I remember reading you had a custom chip form Thor, or did they re-map an existing one you alreday had? Just wondering as I have a JWT chip but may be getting some Hybrid Tubs which could be better used with a re-mapped jobbie.

I have a full mongoose exhaust and an APexi induction system (kindly supplied by Danny). I agree it sounds superb and will give you some decent BHP/ torque gains particularly within the mid-range band.

Obviously the ECU &/or chip upgrade aligned with a boost controller will turn in into a "beast".

How deep ARE your pockets????

How much do you charge for a Manual JWT chip for a 91 TT? I was going to buy a whole ECU, but if you have the chips, well, I'll just get one of them and socket the board.

BTW anyone know the safest boost level you can run on a JWT chip? (regardless of tub types)

funnily enough I am back up there Monday for another run or two

TonyC what problems????????????????

Hi Alex,

Well i had a fueling problem, running very lean top end,det at 14psi,and even at 10.5 psi,and must admit was not audible by me inside car,the JWT chip was sent back to US to be mapped for 555 Injectors and the tubs, but being an off the shelf type chip it cant be to precise for each individual Z,more a generalisation set up with supposedly richer running, personaly i think after 3 engines going tits up with this chip in it must of contributed to the problems for me and JVN,includeing the fuel regulator not being up to it either!,i would never of known if it had not been for the RR session, and 6 months later another piston gone maybe :( but thankfully ok now.As for the JWT chip,Thor cant actually re map it,not to sure but i think it cant be done with this chip,i could be wrong. On my B setting i can run 17.4psi and hold 16.5 no problems, infact room for more boost but we left it at that,to keep it within a good saftey margin(the Apexi SAFC II doing the fueling in 12 point rpm stages, keeps it sorted thank god  )
