Hi guys

Sorry if this had been posted many times before but im seriously considering getting a 300zx in replace of my 200sx.Insurance quotes have come back rther favourably which means now all i got to do is decide which 1 i want

Id love to get the turbo and prices arent that bad now but the only thing im worrying about is the reliability, cos i expect that when something goes wong its gonna cost quite a bit

So the question is which is the more reliable of the two and avergae running/repair costs through out the year?

What is the difference between the Uk and Jap spec models?

Thanks

Hi Jon

See if I can get the ball rolling for you!

You could do a search for uk/jap spec or go to http://www.300zx.org.uk.

The V6 I think is a reliable engine, easy to upgrade, thats why the guys like um!

All UK Z's are TT, Jap ones TT or N/A. UK Z's have larger rear wheels than front.

Japs come with generally higher specs. I think all Z's have targa's. There is a SW model too.

If u buy an N/A, no I wont go that way! (TT or N/A) Have u driven one?

Arthur

Remember, no one EVER took off their turbos to make it an N/A. Lots of N/A owners WANT to turbo their cars (yes, I know some of the N/A owners love them, but.........)

Reliability? On a 10-12 year old car how long is a bit of string. If you manage to buy a good one then it will go for years with minimal servicing costs. If your turbos and gearbox blow just after you buy it then it's gonna cost HEAPS! (still less than an 'equivalent' European car though)

You can get lots of bits cheaper from the States, or through this forum, and this place is a gold mine of valuable information.

Take your time, get a clean one with lots of history and oil changes and you shouldn't go wrong.

Go on, get one, you'll LOVE it!!! :D :D

If you do get one, subsrcibe to this forum (£20) and then get an insurance quote from Houghtons, you will probably be pleasenatly surprised as they give us a club discount.

Unfortunately, if you are concened about running costs then it may be a decider for you. This is what makes the cars cheap to buy. Expect it to be heavy on tyres, fuel and servicing. And if anything breaks it can be very unpleasant indeed, unless you can get suitable 2nd hard parts. If you're a bit of a part-time mechanic yourself then you can reduce the bills significantly, but the best advice is, no matter what you get, get a good one, a bad one can be cripplingly expensive !

Turbos may be a little less reliable.

The turbo units themselves can need attention and they run hot which can cause some wiring to go brittle.

But obviously, they're a good bit quicker!

I just sold my 200SX and wanted a 300zx. I ended up with a 1999 N/A rather than a 1996 TT as I wanted to reduce the chance of big repair bills.

I think all Z's have targa's.

No they dont.

No they dont.

99% do tho, slick tops are very rare, as are convertables ;)

There's no need for targa's in Fife!

You only need targa's south of the boarder where the sun shines!

Leather standard on UK? NO! an option or extra I think they call it now.

Forgot about soft tops! Fog lights, Hicas, auto climate control,o/d,headlight washers, folding mirrors, electric seats.

No, I dont think I got everything?

Ha, have you been to Fife? Miles and miles of the sandiest, sunny beaches in the world. Baywatch was filmed in Fife. Beach bbq's and beautiful woman in bikinis all year round. No need for targas in fife huh?

I think in general imported cars are looked after much better than UKs, and have far less mileage and rust due to the climate over there. Of course this depends from car to car.
