Will it free up much power?

Considernig the exchange rate at the moment, it is rude not to buy some more stuff ;)

I was thinking about a lightened Flywheel, maybe the segmented one. Do you think it is worth the money? Is it a good investment?

It will reduce the 'smoothness' of the engine a little, but pickup will be better. Ask PaulC - he loves his.

having seen one fitted to a v6 callibra, the difference was amazing, but i have a feeling that on a turbo car its not really worth it. But hey, id have one.

As most people know I have quite a big order coming from the thge US, and with the exchange rate as it is, it would be foolish not to get something like that. The flywheel is probably on its last legs as it has had 2 or 3 skims already and they dont last forever.

But what sort of money are you talking (not forgetting the expense of fitting it too!??)

Just over £200 I think they will be. £250 max.

That's not as bad as I thought, but I have a long list of prior priorities!

I had 1 fitted did'nt really feel much different to a standard 1! it only lasted 2months, i burnt me clutch out and it buckled it

the only annoying thing I noticed is that you have to give it more revs when you pull off.

If u have aftermarket turbos u'll feel the difference more. What u get is response and better spool up

deffo picks up quicker, not by a huuuuuuge amount, but a worthwhile mod non the less.

doesnt affect drivability/smoothness at all IMO.

I had the fidanza one on my last car. TBH, I wouldn't say for the cost it's worth it. Better put the cash towards intercoolers or something.

Dosen't really make too much difference to somoothness etc either so if you need a new flywheel anyway then you might as well get one.

John, sounds like the voice of reason. Truth is the list of things you can do is endless. I'm still trying to write the list of things I should do!

i put the segmented rps one in because of the problems people had with the other types with buckling. It deffo helps the engine spin up more freely and hardly effects driveabillity, after a couple of days your used to it and dont notice any difference when pulling away at all.

Probably wouldn't take the box out just to fit one but if your gonna need a clutch or flywheel sometime then i would do it for sure.

The box is off at the moment as my engine is in little bags scattered all over the garage. The clutch is a year old I was just wondering if its worth getting a lightened flywheel.

Stu, the main benefit I've found is better chuckability around the ratios. Stock flywheel upshifts seem to take an eternity to me now, and blipping on a downshift is a lot harder to get right with stock. (It's more like a stamp than a blip between 5th and 3rd!)

The downside is a loss of inertia in the engine at very low revs, so pulling out of junctions on an upslope becomes an art form, and multi-stories are that much tricker. So long as you remember the car no longer pulls without throttle it's OK.
