Spent the whole weekend working on the car. Did timing belt and HICAS removal. Now the bloody thing's rewarded me by detting like a bugger. Guess what ever was wrong at thor has got worse. Even pings at 3500rpm with a JWT map!!

Guess that's another weekend of checking for fuelling probs and air leaks then

not your dodgy spark plugs then John ;) :D

No Chance! They're a heat range colder than stock and conduct heat away better. They're a protection against it if anything.

I'm fitting some of these NGK ZFR7F-11 plugs at the weekend for a lovely cold spark too

John I've still got the boost leak detector I promised you - do you want me to post it to you tomorrow to help at the weekend? I'm going to the PO anyway... :)

Cheers

Pete

Are you 100% sure the timing belt is lined up 100%.

Also, dunno what kind of fueling probs you've got, but make sure you've done your O2 sensor check - part of the ecu diag - as in the service manual.

Air leaks are a pain, If possible pressurise your system to find them. (I've seen an adapter somewhere that replaces the air intake with a connection for a pump)

Yep, this isn't a timing type issue, it's definately det. The timing belt is definatly right, I checked the marks several times after rotating the crank 2 turns in between. It's the first belt I'd done on one of these so was being very careful!

O2 sensors are new, and not used at the sort of revs/load it's occurring at anyway.

I'm thinking it's either a fuel pressure problem or a bad air leak. I've got a calibrated fuel pressure gauge so going to try that to start with.

The adaptor thing you're talking about is the one Pete has. Don't bother sending it yet Pete, I'll drop you a line if I do need it, cheers.

Someone p*ssed in your fuel tank? If it'd been me, the octane would probably have gone up ;)

John I am gonna be up at Petes at the weekend , with the ConZult which can play with the fueling and timing whilst driving etc if that helps bud , also I got the spare ECU for ya

Cheers Ryan,

Might be useful just to see what all the sensors are reading etc.

ECU is code 55, but something might be a little off.

I've got the capibility to map on the fly, but TBH this is more than just a little off!!

Just thinking that the CAS could have gone back on a bit different after doing the belt, but even then by switching to a JWT map it's dropped loads of timing off anyway.

I might give you a buzz. What day are you at Pete's ?

Saturday , I think , I have a spare CAS i can bring with me to if you want mate , this is of course all subject to SE sorting out mr car tomorrow. give us a call later if you want bud

John, dead simple but have you checked the hose for the carbon canister purge on the pass side TB? Might be worth checking its on m8 ;)

Cheers for the replies.

Andy: I'll check all the hoses I can see! Most of them have been replaced with silicon ones now so hopefully no splits etc.

Ryan: I think the CAS is OK, but cheers anyway. Just thought the bracket might be misaligned by .1° or something! Clutching at straws here ...

If you PM me ur address, I'll get that adj. fpr in the post for you ;) If its detting, its drawing air in which would tend to rule out most of the vac lines as they are under pressure on boost. The only points I can think of where you may have a problem is the connections at the TBs. Other than that, its either a timing or fueling issue I think....

Andy, you got pm. Cheers.

Just thought, I'd better check all around the intake Tee piece. I did fit an induction kit the day before the RR, so if I've bust that I could be drawing unmetered air around there somewhere I suppose.

Service manual has the voltage for the MAS at idle I think, so could be worth measuring that - maybe use your hand to 'choke' the intake slightly to try to induce a leak.....

John if you wanna come over to Dav to play with me and Ryan and Mr ConZult there'll be enough bacon sarnies and coffee for 3? Mr ConZult is a veggie btw... :D:D

Cheers

Cheers again for the ideas!

Pete, thanks for the offer mate. Don't really wanna drive it very far at the minute though. TBH, I hope I can get it fixed here. Might still drop you a line yet though!

Make sure your EGR stuff is working correctly too. If EGR is allowing hot stuff into the manifold it can promote detonation.

After checking (and disabling) the EGR system today, I spotted a leak from the side of my fuel pressure reg!

I'm kinda hoping that it'll be the cause! Will find out tomorrow anyway ...
