I haven't drive my z for about a week, and now I can't even start the engine, I tried to start it up by connecting the battery to another car's battery, but it seems useless, and nothing I could do with it, any idea?

Thanks for all of you

Probably need a little more info mate , is the car turning over ??? and not catching or is it dead completely ???

sorry the only problem (I think) is that when I put the key in and turn it, the engine seems dead, it can't be started, so I asked my friend what's up with her (as I have no knowlegment about the car), and he told me energy of the battery might be run out, asked me to connect the battery of my zed to my another car, so I did, but it still the same, that's what the problem is. I am going to get help from AA if it doesn't work next few days.

PS. sorry about my english, and that's the only thing I know

OK by the sounds of it your Battery either needs charging or replacing , do any of your lights etc work ???

sounds like the battery is dead, do the lights work? Does it make any kind of clicking noise when you turn the key? Was the engine running on the other car?

  • Author

yes, the light and every electricial like seat and light is fine, the other car is running with no problem as well, and it does make clicking noise when I turn the key, but I didn't rev my soarer (my another car) to 2000 before I start my zed up, did I do anything wrong?

hmm dont see why it shouldnt turn over then. Try replacing the battery.

Sounds like it may be a bad earth to me. Enough juice for the lights, but too much drain on a poor connection leads to arcing and means not enough current for the starter motor.

  • Author

then what I gonna do? do I need to replace the battery or try to do something else to fix it?

If its giving you a rapid clicking sound you dont have enough juice in the battery to turn it over - the Zed has a high requirement on this front and will prevent the engine turning over if theres not enough to drive it. Charge it up and see - but it sounds like the battery has had it - buy a new heavy duty battery rated for the Zed only - not just any old car.

but I stranged that I just left it for less than a week (I remember last time I started it, I took it to PASS :) the MOT), and now it can't even start whatever I do? is zed easy to having this problem or only mine one is? because I tried to left my soarer at my garage for about a month, and nothing problem with it.

Dickens , i know this sounds like a dumb question but dose the car have an imobiliser

on the alarm ? is the imobiliser dissabled ?

get some jump leads from your soarers battery to the zed , start the soarer and rev it to 2500 rpm let the juice go into the zeds battery for 30 seconds or so then turn the ignition on the zed to turn her over , if and when she fires up take off the jump leads , be careful not to touch the body work with the jump leads and do not short them together until you have both ends (zed and Soarer dissconected ) god luck mate

It can be sudden - Mine packed up overnight - I could charge it back up but it was dead - new battery sorted it. The giveaway is the very load and very rapid clicking of a relay. If you get nothing at all then it may not be the battery - You could get it drop tested to see if its worn out.

  • Author

I did try everything to sort it out, but it seems that the battery dead already, does anyone know where can I buy a new battery for her? and normally how much I expect to pay for it? due to tuition fee (8750 quid, shit), I haven't much money to do any mod and repairing until may, so please advise some econ or cheap one, I have seen the old forum that mentioned there are some batteries which will fit to our zed from halfords, do you guys know anything about it?

  • Author

no, the immobiliser is working well, nothing problem with it, that's why I don't think anything to do with the immo is helpful to start it up

Your batery doesn't have the energy to start up the car like BILKY said.U have to leave the soarer for more time on to charge ur batery better. The z needs a big load to start. Don't buy a new one until u start the car and drive it. If it doesn't charge then u'll need a new one.Try checking if u forgot ur fogs on.

U should also check ur alternator if it charge ur batery.

  • Author

thanks for all your replies, whatever I can get it done or not, all of you are very helpful and nice.

I am leaving my soarer next to my zed to charge up, and I will leave it like this for 3-5 hours today, hopefully the battery of my zed can start up and run like our old time. If it can't be sorted out, I think the only way I can do is replacing the battery, but dunno where and which one will fit to it, any idea?

BigThanks for you guys

Not mate just turn the soarer engine on and charge the z for 10-15 minutes but make sure that's everything is off. Try turning your on engine on while your charging and then remove the wire.

  • Author

" make sure that's everything is off"

is that mean I switch off everything from my SOARER or ZED?

everything is off from the Z just keep the Z's key in the off position and try starting it after 10-15 of charging

  • Author

bad news for me, I tried everything all of you mentioned, but I still can't turn it over, is that mean the only way I do is buying a new battery and replace it? do all you guys think this can be sorted it out? if so, where and which model I need for it?

thanks again

I had a similar problem with mine - started on a jump start (leave the soarer running, and start the Zed on jump leads) but wouldn't start on the battery. Battery was tested to be fine.

As Andy said, it could be a bad earth on the starter motor. It was on mine, and after tightening the earth I've been back to perfect starting every time.

It seems the starter needs lots of volts, and a bad earth drops the effective volts below the solenoid threshhold. Jump-starting provides volts about 2V higher than the battery, which overcame the bad earth.

Turned out cheaper than a new battery and/or starter motor!
