Right if all goes well should be starting my zed up tomorrow, but i still have to get some oil now what oil do i want, i've always used Comma Syner-Z Fully Synetic 0w-40. is it ok to stick with that? as i've never had any probs with it, and every motorfactors i hve been to have all recomended that oil!

Hey Math, Some on here say 0/40 is too thin.

I use castrol RS 0/40 in the winter and 10/60 in the summer.

So what have you done to your Z?

If you are still running it in, you use the cheapest oil you can find until you have run it in!

Nothing much just rebuilding it after a cracked conrod!

Cheers for the info, but i'm still confused    so is it 0w-40 like what i have been using or 10W-40? all the data books i have looked at for diferant oils all recomend 0w-40

i use rs 0/40 aswell

the first figure is the the distance the oil will travel down an incline at a certain temp,

i.e.closer to the starting temp of the engine, this will differ according to the local climate

the second figure is the distance of travel down the same incline at a higher temp i.e.closer to the operating temp of engine

Just use a high quality, fully synthetic oil and change it with the filter every 3000 miles!

Arguing about oil, is just like birds arguing over who makes the best make up!

In that case I should be ok with the 25 litres of 5/30 grade fullt synthetic that my mate got me cheap from work.

I don't mean all at once :p

I would say not!

The second figure is the viscosity at high temperatures. the "30" part is too low for a ZX due to the high temps reached in these engines. I would use a minimum of "40" say 5W40 or 0W40.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Some people think the 0 part makes it too thin. Its nonsense. As explained already the 0 part refers to the viscosity when cold and the 40 or 50 or 60 for when hot. If the 0 was too thin then the oil pressure cold would be lower than the oil pressure when hot. It aint. I would rather have 0 or even less for cold rating especially in winter. You want those bearings getting lubbed when cold not spread with thick honey. Plus you have less chance of blowing crank seals and the like with sky high cold oil pressure.

So while 60 might be OK for a hot worn engine in peak summer or for track use its just a drag the rest of the year and saps power. 40 for hot is fine for a fast road car.

There is a oil pressure release valve isnt there, whic openes when the pressure reaches 90PSI

Stuart,

If you are talking about the relief valve that feeds the oil cooler then this would not take a lot of pressure away. The oil cooler has a restrictor in line so that not too much oil is not diverted away from the engine to the sump!
