After finally finding the faulty replay behind the main fuse caused the ABS/ HICAS lights to illuminate while drivinbg and would not allow the car to start, I noticed that while I was trying to determine the root cause of the problem, I found numerous components were sodden with water. All of the relays affixed to the back of the main fusebox under the dashboard had to be removed, the holders (which were contaminated with rust, green deposits, amongst other things) all had to be cleaned out, filed and restored to their former glory, along with the contacts on the relays.

Other components examined during the investigation, like the starter relay inside the wheel arch (what a place to put this!!) were also heavily corroded/ contamined and had to be cleaned-up and repaired.

Has anyone else come across anything similar?? Is this a design flaw??

Maybe there is a grommet missing in the arch to the inner of the car somewhere allowing water to get in.

have you checked the plastic mouldings underneath the windscreen , if they are cracked/ split then the water does not run away into the drainage chanels under the bonnet but goes onto the bulkhead and soaks everything in its path .

Might be obvious, but have you checked the grommets on the bulkhead into the engine compartment? If its had extra wires run in, say for an alarm or something, then sometime people forget to seal the holes back up, or simply writhe the wires in and split the sealing grommet.

I pretend to work, they pretend to pay me!

Follow the targa drain hose down the a pillar to the footwell - chances are the join has become disconnected and it now dumps the water straight in the footwell ;)
