Hi everyone, ive just registered on this forum and i currently own a Starlet Gt Turbo. However im looking to change my car to either a 300ZX Twin Turbo or a Skyline GTS Turbo, ive got upto £9000 to spend on the car and have loads of info on the skyline but could do with as much info on the 300ZX as possible, performance, servicing etc etc.

Has anyone out there owned both, how do they compare.

Any advice would be great, cheers in advance.

Welcome.

You've come at a ripe time. There are some very "special" 300s up for sale at the moment. Have a look through the "for sale" section.

As a relative novice I have found the advice from the members of this site to be invaluable, and I am sure when they see your thread they will be able to offer you assistance.

Simon :)

Hi Simon

I actually put a deposit on my zed and a skyline gts because i couldnt decide so i then rung round every car tuner and asked which car to get...300 or skyline they all said skyline if its a gtr if not the 300!!

300's have something special about them and theres not many cars on the road like that...skylines dont have it

£9000! Buy 2 decent 300's or a GTR.

Having driven both I would say a) buy a 300 and b) (as I have a mate who has his up for sale) £9000 wont biuy you a sorted GTS-T, but will get you avery nice 300tt and change. HTH, or two very nice NA's :)

I do like both cars a lot. If it was my money I'd buy a 300zx, unless you're prepared to spend R34 GTR money (which you're not at 9k).

GTS is only going to give you one turbo? I ain't getting out of bed for less than 2.

Oh and the roof doesn't come off a skyline...and in the summer that's a must

If you can muster another 3k you should take a look at Tony Lacks 300zx "Lack300". It's for sale and it is

Jonno.

Hello mate, welcome!

I originally wanted a skyline, but seeing as

only the R34 & a handfull of R33 GTR's were

officially imported to this country, the spares

costs are ridiculous (£600+ for a w'sceen!).

Even if you buy an imported z, they were

officially released here from the word go, so

spares are readilly available at reasonable prices.

As before, the z is an absolutely gorgeous car,

Something the Skyline isn't, unless you're willing

to spend £20k on it!

There's nothing else on the road that even comes

close to it for looks

Try looking at http://www.japcity.com thats were i got

my z from, expensive, but its top quality stuff.

You pay your money, you take your choice!

Great advice everyone, cheers.

How about the spec on the 300ZX, 0 to 60, top speed etc.

Any idea what the service intervals, standard tyre sizes and fuel consumption is like too ( gonna be using this bad boy every day so just trying to get a figure of what my running costs are going to be ).

Thanks again and keep the advice comming.

Hi

Use the search facility. There is loads of Info on 0-60 and all other specs. Think there may be something in the FAQ as well.

Cant seem to find any info on spec or sevicing under the search engine or under FAQ??

Anyone else got any ideas

The TT does 0-60 approx 5.5secs....depending on traffic!

Speed limited to 155mph.

Change oil/filter every 3-4k miles,

big service at 65k (cambelt etc....)

Not to bad on petrol....considering it's a 3ltr with two turbo's!

Use super unleaded.

Cam belt change is every 60,000 not 65,000.

0-60 is about 5.5 standard like Sideshow Bob said.

Top speed is limited to 155 but taking off the limiter and people have reached 170mph very easy.

MPG goes from 30-33 mpg taking it easy on the motorway, 25-28 going faster on the motorway. 16-18 mpg around town

Stu, you're so cruel!

I get 20mpg.

I can only improve on this by parking and turning the ignition off!

(I refuse to drive it like it isn't a zed!)

i wish i got 20mpg think im down to about 11, but its just so much fun going sideways and i have found a bit of road that i can get the back end of the ground hope to improve my tyre wear with this.

only things that have gone wrong clutch ball broke, rear tyres about 1000 miles, melted clutch (standard) 600 miles, tension rods and thats about it. not bad considering the abuse i give her

Russ, sounds like you drive preety hard wat mods have you done to your 300, wat sort of power is it pumping out?

not as much power as some of the boys on here.

330 bhp at the wheels

straight through exhaust from turbo (SE Nissteck or what ever)

max-flow air filter

boost upgrade

custom ecu (worth every penny)

stage 1 turbos

dump valves (just to make a nice noise)

polished & ported heads

343mm ap discs 6 pot ap calipers

groved rear discs ferrado ds2500 pads s/s brake lines 5.1 fluid

rose jointed front tension rods

hicas removed and rose jointed

SE lowering springs

ap paddle clutch

race logic traction control

quick shift gear lever

and the body is modded a fair bit

if i was you with the money you want to spend i would buy a z from someone on this forum and use the rest of the money to buy a daily driver it will be cheaper have a look at the differance in insurance ??? any performance car driven hard will break.
