Hello

I've been reading this forum for a while now - if I could choose a car it would probablt be a 300zx - TT of course! wheeeee!

But everyone seems to be real handy with their Z's and are always 'tinkering'. Are Z's unreliable or do you all just like fiddling (with your cars!)? I'm not at all handy with cars - would a Z not be for me then?

Plus, I read somewhere that Nissan stopped producing the 300zx in the UK round about 1995, but I never seem to see any Z's later than about 1992. Are there any? Plus, has anyone got an import which is later than 95? I've never seen/heard of anyone having one...

cheers

C.

Nissan stopped importing the Z in this country due to tighter emission laws but it was still sold in Japan up to last year.

You will get lots of stories about reliability, some people here have had a nightmare and others no bother at all. Its much easier to maintain a Z now than it used to be due to the experiences and advice from people here and parts from people like Johnny and Luke.

So stop hiding your cash under the matress and get one bought.

Hi Kris,

I'm not at all handy with cars either. I've had loads of help and advice from people here.

I've had my Z now for almost 2 years and it's been great. Make sure you get someone to check it out for you before you buy one. I'd recommend a mark 2 model (late 92 onwards) as they have a few nice extras on them.

Cheers,

Andy

the 300zx is getting old, and especially cause turbo's generally last more than 70k miles.

300zx's are getting old, with old cars there's a lot of mileage, and that's why some people have had headaches and such, but then there's a lotta oysters, and a few pearls in the sea.

I bought mine with a rebuilt engine, tranny, new clutch, the guy was fixing it, then he got $5,000 in tickets so he had to sell.......

and he procrastinated til the last minute cause he was trying to pay for it anyway possible, he waited too long and he needed a buyer in the last minute, so he sold it to me for $5,000 and some favors (he's one of my bestfriends)

so i got a good deal outta it, and i worked out a deal on getting the turbos rebuilt, website trade for rebuilding them and installing them.

since all the important things are rebuilt, i got a great car that's driving without a problem, only 10k miles on the engine, and i'm getting the odometer pulled back to 10k (rebuilt engine milage) at the local nissan dealership this week sometime.

i dunno a 150k milage on the odometer kinda erks me

double post

Kris,

Don't jump in and buy the first one you see (I made that mistake and managed to get my cash back) took me 11 months to find a 'pukka' Z.

The Z is a great car to own, I know nothing of what is under the bonnet, I get help from people on this forum (Jeff TT)

Make sure you buy a Z with FNSH and try to get as many reciepts as you can from the person you buy from. There was a post on here some time ago telling what to look for for and what to watch out for, try to find it. It was posted by 'Lymon' some time ago but if you put another thread up asking for the info, i'm sure it won't be long till someone post it up for you biggrin.gif

Don't be afraid to own a Z, they are just wicked!

kris_C...I got myself a ZTT last september..it is a 1990 car but I picked this one from a few others because it was a UK modle with Full Service History...

so I could see on paper at least what ppl did to this car and how was kept....

the car has been fine so far (cross fingers) and when I got it it had just over 100,000 miles on it...now I have 108,000 and still running same turbos from original....

In a month or so I'll rebuild the engine turbos and do some little mod.....

All I did so far is take care of fluids, a full service as I bought it(service done my my trusted Chris Wilson...he is a car racer...a meccanich for racing teams and he races in Formula 3..and hey he took me around Doninghton Park in his Nissan Skyline where is has a lap time that puts him in pole position at the porsh champinoships...i did 3 laps in his car and that was one of my best days ever ...he was driving ofcourse...damn I'm going out of line here...carried asay smile.gif)....

Anyway yes shop around and do have the car checked by some one you trust....

NICO came with me to see my car when I bought it....Since I got it I had to replace the exhaust...brakes......but all normal stuff really...and I had a another check up from Nissan recently...all fine so far

Good luck and get a Z....you won't regret it...

When you rebuild the engine...are you allowed to reset the odometer?...it is not a new engine..it is still the same but rebuilt!....I'd like to know

Well, maybe not yet. Still saving those pennies up! I figure I'd like to get a car with real performance whilst I'm still young(ish - pushin' 30) and able. Since you don't that many Z's around (as opposed to M3's, Imprezas, and the like) and it looks *dreamy* then it's top of the list.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll keep on reading this forum!

Manic

The odometer is yours to do with as you please, you can set it to what you want. The only time this will fall foul of the law is if you claim this is the origional mileage when you sell the car.

Paul

Kris,

Had mine for 7 years, I only just started changing the oil myself, never mind the rest of the mechanics... there are cheaper ways than Nissan for servicing - I've gone private for the last 5 years.

If it envolves wiring I'm okay, but the rest... mmmm, wish me luck, I'm about to go and find my water leak...

Kris, buy one - got mine about 3 or 4 weeks ago and have never had so much fun behind the wheel - the car teaches you a new respect for driving. Bad news though - I've bought plenty of second hand cars and thought I was reasonably with it but upon having a real decent look while cleaning the other day have just noticed that the car is accident repaired, the weld on the off side wing being less than factory perfect and also the a pillar. Not sure what to do now as I wanna keep the car (I think) but also feel that the dealer should maybe do something about this (what?) Any ideas anyone ? Also does anyone know someone good, with a good reputation for looking after the car in the Southampton area ?
