Been out in the car tonight and all of a sudden anything over 2-2500 revs and the car hits a limiter.

After a friendly phone call to Jeff he suggested AFM cabling.

I have unplugged and replugged this back in but car will still not go above 2500 revs.

This is killing me, I just got burnt off by a nova :(

50mph top speed in 5th now, anyone shed any light?

It's more likely to be the AFM itself mate Whatever it is it's definately AFM related. If you can, swap it for a known good one. This will isolate your problem straight away.

ECU has gone into limp-home mode. Like Mike says, probably the AFM.

Wish I could be of more help...

Is there any resistance tests I can do between pins of the AFM?

Any way of fooling it?

If not I'll buy another from Jeff - Its just a bloody long drive at 50mph

Not sure about resistance tests. I'm sure someone can dig some out. Iain (MAC1) managed to fix his with some handy soldering however.

There's no way of fooling at because it is relying on the TPS as a substitute for the AFM data. As the TPS doesn't have any idea how much air is being boosted by the turbos, you've got to keep the revs very low so that it can make an "educated" guess without being too far out.

Defo the AFM. Try cleaning the contacts. If Jeff Can't get one, let me know as I may be able to help out :)

That's right Mike;)

However....................................

If this has happened in the rain then it won't repair, the water shorts out the board:(

When mine failed it was on a warm day,18 months ago done a quick repair and it's still going strong:D

Oh and my money is on the AFM;)

Its a simple job to fit one, seeing as you have an aftermarket induction kit it should only take 30 minutes to replace. Might be an option if you are worried about driving,

Limped to work this morning, car finally gave up the ghost 15 ft short of its parking space.

Its infuriating when theres an empty space and it just wouldnt reach it, in my rear view mirror I see other cars coming and overtaking me to get into space . . . . . .arrrggghhhhh

I feel like killing it.

MY Supra never gave me this problem.

Firstly Im gonna remove the AFM and have a look at it.

Im gonna do that in the next hour or so whilst Im at work :)

I'll post any findings.

thanks all

after a very quick look, do I need a 10mmm spanner for the 4 bolts?

Also where the connector plugs into the afm there is a hole where looks like something is missing alongside?

should there be anything in there?

WIsh I could shed some light Jay, but I really dont know enough about Zeds yet, I will one day, Geoffs said I can spend a day in his workshop to pick up some bits and bobs so that'll really help!!

Best of luck mate...hope u geddit sorted, I know what its like to have problems with the car......

yep 10mm bolts.

Cant remember anything along side the connector.....a hole doesnt sound good - is it through the plastic?

The hole itself is a manufactured one but It is plugged.

Its part of the casing. So Im not worried about that

I have the AFM in my hands and there are 4 screws that hold the connector in place on it. I have removed them but the poxy connector will not withdraw out. MAC1 - how did you open your afm?

Im pretty handy with a soldering iron and a DVM :)

I just measured the resistance between the pins on the AFM.

There are pins for B C D E

Between pins C & D Im getting .2 Ohms when the meter is set at 200 Ohms

the rest is nothing

Sorted - Many thanks ot Jeff At Zedworld as he told me what voltages you need to expect.

If anyones interested the B Pin needs to be at 0.8v with ignition on and between 0.8v and 1.5v at idle (engine warm)

I cleaned up all connections and tightened the conn plugs and it now revs up to 4k

I cant rev above that coz Im in a hospital car park and it attracts a lot of attention at tickover due to loud exhausts :)

So anyways, I think its fixed - will know tonight when I go home

Cheers all
