hi lads

bought a z32 a couple of months ago (93 TT UK) and been browsing your posts for the past few weeks. (too shy to post) Ive done a searce and nobody seems to b mentioning which GRADE of oil they use or is recommended??

I bought some 5/30 Castrol Magnetic at the weekend but later on realised that on my last car had to replace the turbo due to using thinner oil. My mechanic said that the 5/30s thinner oil had washed up the deposits in the engine and this caused the turbo to be danaged (£580 full recon unit)

thinking about taking it back and swapping for 10/40s magnetic

plenty of time as waiting for the rest of the parts to arrive that I ordered from courtney nissan in texas

what do u think

engine covered 85000

Well Paul,I only use Castrol RS 10/60 fully synthetic,a few others do too;)

Castrol 10-60 is a great oil as it give you a great range of grade.

Use at least semi-synthetic oil and if you can get hold of 10-60 try some 10-40.

In my MR2 I always used Shell Ultra Helix fully synthetic.

I know someone who works in the service department at Ferrari and he told me thats what they put in Ferrari's. I would imagine if that oil is good enough for the prancing horse then it should suit the Zed very nicely:)

Hi Paul

I use Shell Helix Ultra, fully synthetic at present. (5w40)

Pretty happy with that, and pressure remained good throughout hot summer no matter how hard I drove the car.

The 5w30 you mentioned is IMO too thin for a Zed, considering the high temperatures present in the engine bay all year round.

The 5w part is better for winter, though as too thick oil in cold conditions is bad for oil seals.

Richard:)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Hi mate i use normally castrol 10/60 but the last change I put mobil 15/50 in and it seems to have got real dirty and dark really quick?

Jim

I use Magnatec and change every 3,000 miles.

Just happened to be glancing at a can of Magnatec the other day and it says something like it's ideal for "conventional" engines. Is a turbo a conventional engine, or is non-conventional something as radical as a rotary ? Anyway, the oil I use is specifically intended for turbo petrol engines. (it must be true - it says so on the label ! ;))
