Does anyone know of any really heavy duty glass polish. All my windows are slightly pitted where car was left in the rain ( not by me ). I have tried autoglym which works but it took me an hour to do a 6" square area !!!!!

Think I need something stronger and an electric polisher !

I don't know about pitted but this always brings my windows up

Bucket of water

Bit of vinegar (not so much that it smells)

give it a stir

then clean the winows with a newspaper putting a good ammount of pressure on them. I've never tried it on or seen pitted windows, my car is always left out in the rain?

Be careful when using glass polish as it may leave the window "distorted" causing the outside world to appear fuzzy/distorted. I have some scratches in the driver side window due to sand being lodged between the rubber and glass. Took it to Autoglass and they advised against polishing them out for the above reasons. Just my 2p worth.

Regards,

not meaning to hijack the thread - but is there a cure for horribly squeaking windscreen wipers - I've changed them but to no avail!

What do you mean by pitted?? My car gets wet nearly every day, you must have strange water where you come from, as it doesn't normally harm the glass in any way!!

Is it pitting or just the effect of acid rain and/or lime etc ? My car came from Japan with a lot of these sorts of marks on the windows and over the years some of it has worn off and some is still left. It's particuarly obvious on the windscreen where the wipers don't reach. I attacked the T-Tops with both Halfords Glass cleaner and AutoGlym Glass Polish, using the finest grade wirewool in each case. It's not perfect but after lots of perseverence I got off quite a lot of the marks. The AutoGlym was far more effective than the Halfords stuff.

Hi all

After washing my car, I clean the windscreen with meths to remove all traces of wax and grime. Then give it a coat of RainEx.

It makes the wipers wipe smoothly and quietly and repels rain and dirt pretty well.

As for preventing squeeky wipers, buy Bosch ones, not Halfords own brand:D (they last longer too).

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Thanks all for input. Tried everything above with varying degrees of success but all take hours of elbow grease. Discovered that jewellers rouge and turps or meths mix does the job best. Bit messy and takes some effort but better than all the other stuff.
