Both of my import zeds have had really lazy seatbelt retraction. I guess there is something that can be done about that but what I (and some of my passengers) have noticed is that when I turn off the ignition the seatbelts pull back slightly. Cant think why that would be. Anybody else noticed this? Anyone know why? Anybody care?

Yep, mine pulls back too..............thought I was going mad at first.

Why tension the belt when you switch off??

Mine does it too! I think its to stop the belt digging in you neck by keeping it a little slack. If you dont like the idea then if you remove the door card there is a wire just unconnect it and it will act like a standad seatbelt

On my girlfriend's imported MR2 turbo they retract when you open the doors - we were told it was something to do with tensioners that retract when you have an accident. They also work when opening the doors to confirm that they are working...I thought the Z didn't have any, as mine don't retract at all!!

I seriously need new belts by the sounds of it. Has anyone fitted aftermarket belts?

I can live with the spooky pull when I turn off the ignition but it would be nice if they retracted properly so I didn't get them caught in the door when I shut it :(

Is there anyway to tension the spring (or whatever makes them wind back in!) or lubricate them?

well i've only eve had a seatbelf apart once and it was a PITA to put all back, and i would not recomend playing about with safey equipment

LOL, how many times have I done this... :D

Mine go slack while driving, then retract when I press the button on the seatbelt anchor. Its a pain in the arse to be quite honest. With a front end that big, sometimes you need to lean forward at junctions just to get a look. Then when you lean back you have a fat mans loop infront of you. This happens about 2 or 3 times and you REALLY start getting annoyed at the blighter!!

yeah i get that too, but the function seems to have broken. One thing you are glad when it breaks on a Z :D

Also much hilarity can be caused by opening the door with someone sitting with the seatbelt on

That's so annoying! Is there any way to move the mounts to the body of the car like on the later models rather than having them on the door?

I actually find that quite funny, a mate in the passenger seat at the petrol station, go round and oyk his door open, thereby strangling the poor bugger, has me rolling about every time. And its not very likely that they will be able to get you back coz mine locks the doors 10 seconds after starting up.

It maybe just because I'm evil:D , but I think its just because I'm down right nasty! heh heh heh

once you have the seatbelt around you , if you give it a little tug and let it go again it becomes much tighter and stays that way until undone :)

not for me, for me id pull it slack a bit more, it'd make a clunk sound, let go and it reeled back up tight, but a few mins later and its slack again, stupid function, almost as stupid as the pass. seat always going back to the same position after tilting forward.
