No worries. When I find it I'll let you know! On first glance, there's a sensor underneath the lower inlet manifold and I'm putting my money on that being it. Could be wrong though.

Mike I found your problem straight away......

Someone has stuffed tissue in all the cylinders and the turbo hoses.

Remove these connect it all back up and you'll be sorted ;)

So what are the plans then ?.

You gonna open her up and have a little play. I see the plenum is off already so I'm thinking 555's ?

Isnt that the det sensor in the middle? You can see the top of the plug.

Bugger! Is that all it is? I had thought that pulling the two gerbil families out of the silencers would have fixed it. But no, I was still stumped. This tissue must be what they were making their nests out of.

No 555's for the time being I'm afraid. Despite Stu's (SRRAE) very tempting suggestions for 555's, dual pop and chip. I was sorely sorely tempted but managed to hold back!

The plenums off 'coz I thought it would be a damn sight easier to start by removing that in the car. As I've never had a VG30DETT out before, it seemed much easier to see what was still connected to it by pulling the plenum first. Anyway, I've got a new det sensor to put in so it was going to have to come off anyway.

The main reason for pulling the engine was I have a slight knock from one of the big end bearings. I thought I'd better address this before it became a problem. Anyway, the car needed a 60K service and had a few oil leaks around the turbos so I had an excuse to pull the engine.

After doing the big end bearings, I'm basically replacing anything that can wear out, putting loads of Smithy's shiny stuff in, new clutch, new flywheel, big brakes and boost controller.

After spending all that, Jane would *****ck me big time if I suddenly told her I was buying injectors, etc!

Wish me luck.

Was the engine hard to do Mike? Or was it quite simple once you got every thing disconected. What instructions did you follow?

Surprisingly easy mate. Taking the plenum off was probably more complicated! Once I had that and the gearbox off, there's only a handful of other things to come off.

Once word of advice though. Disconnect the steering column lower joint. I forgot and very nearly banged into it a few times on the way up. I'm definately going to separate this before I put the engine back.

The main problem was the engine is so far in from the front and the sides. I managed to get the crane in from the side and then only just. I had to have it on the longest extension which is only rated for 250Kg (I'm pretty sure this is pushing the limit on the VG30DETT). Then, on the way up, I had to pull the engine towards the side as the distance between the upright and the end of the crane arm shortens as it moves upwards past the horizontal.

But everything went to plan and it's now sat in the garage. So good luck when you do yours and I'm here for any help you need.

Cheers

Hi Guys

If you want to borrow my crane to lift your engine your welcome. You can wheel it up to the front to lift it no probs and it doesnt look like i will need it for the near future!!

Mike

Thanks for the offer mate, I have sourced one out thanks. :D
