What should you do when you think you've just written off your Z?

What do you think guys?

Had quite a bad spin out on the way home today from work...

Coming round a left hand bend, back end flipped out from me and I went spinning...

About 3 times I think

The car is quite damaged.

Front bumper grazed, wing, rear bumper, rear light cluster(electrics), rear O/S wheel bent in (meaning the wishbone etc is bent), both tailpipes, and a 4 inches of tree stuck in the boot!!

I feel like sh*t!!

- What I've done -

After the accident the farmer came out and started raving about his hedge (which I took out in places - twice). I have signed a piece of paper saying I skidded and took out property owned by him and he is going to give me a price on repair (just in case I don't want to go through the insurance) - Only a thought!!

I did try to drive the car home but after a short distance thought, I don't want to risk it and what the hell would happen if someone went into me? No more risk I thought...

It's now stuck 50 miles away and I'm gonna get my insurance company to sort it out.................

Anyone has any ideas or thoughts or suggestions, please reply.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, just needed to talk...

Thanks

Ben

P.S. I've just realised I've got targa blinds!! (took these and the targa bags out the car when getting my stuff out before the relay guys took it!)

In fact if you haven't got anything positive or productive to say, why don't you just shut up.

You are not very intuitive if you have to ask a question like that after my last post, I am passionate about things that matter.

Yes I like my ZX in fact it's my second one but it's not my focus in life, I may be wrong but I think forums like this should concentrate on owners swopping info regarding making the cars work and fault finding the many problems that plague these cars.

I really don't think that if any of us won the lottery then the first port of call would be a zx dealer, I think 99% would ditch it tomorrow for a new Porsche, Ferrari or sports Merc.

My point is we buy these vehicles because we like fast cars and haven't got a spare £60+ grand to spend on what we really want, it is a love affair of convenience because they are cheap good looking and quick but like a pretty girl if something slinkier with less miles comes along then watch my dust.

This is a really good forum and I enjoy using it but if you wish to kick me out for expressing an opinion, feel free as I said there are worse things in life.

I think you guys are wrong, if he or his family had been hurt in the crash that's fair enough to moan about the crash, but just because a car gets a bit dented and its insured, so what.

My point is you shouldnt expend emotional energy on trivial things, keep them until the biggies hit your life and then you realise how pathetic it is moaning about a simple car shunt, of which I have had several.

Last year I suffered a long hospital stay and a death so I know from bitter experience about what real shit life can throw at you.

I dont wish the guy any ill feeling and hope he gets back on the road soon but I just wanted to let him know there are worse things in life.

Agreed, there ARE big things in life that are more important than a simple car crash. However, at THIS point in his life, he has just crashed his car and therefore is upset about it - a not very surprising reaction.

At the end of the day, yes, it's just a lump of metal and plastic (with some leather and alcantara thrown in for good measure) but it's also something that we spend a lot of time with and money on. This isn't the run of the mill Micra or Ford (Cossies excepted), it's a (getting rarer) supercar.

If Spezer had hurt anyone or if something more tragic had occured and let's hope it doesn't, then yes, this would pale into insignificance beside a death or whatever but for goodness' sakes, accept his story for what it was - a need to share his feelings and thoughts with other like-minded individuals.

If all you can do is slate him for being upset, then please stop saying it.

Update...

Hi all,

I have been ringing around to find out what going on with my car.

It's being moved to a holding company in the next few days and will then be assessed and hopefully told the outcome before the end of the week!!

Old farmer pickles (not real name ) rang me and said he wanted £200 cash if settled out of insurance, otherwise he'd call the police and go through the insurance company.

I spoke to the police to clarify this load of balls, and they said "we would not get involved, as you stayed at the accident and have admitted liability. It's a job for the insurance company to sort out"..

So I rang up my insurance company and informed them of everything said (so old farmer pickles will be stuffed to get anymore than £150 out of them!!!) :D

I'll let you know as things progress....

Just out of interest does anyone want a slightly unorthodoxly modified Zed?

Seriously though, if I don't buy it back does anyone else want it? I could buy it and let one of you guys take it from there?

Speak soon.

Ben

P.S. If MickG has nothing better to do than go on our forum spouting rubbish about terminally ill people - GET A LIFE!!

As so rightly said by members on the board, We're not going on about what could have happened, just how to deal with it now it has.... James/Ajay - Great replies (Many Thanks).

Bad Luck mate, cars can fixed or replaced, but people can't, hence think yourself lucky. But still hurts im sure.

MICK

Let me just say one more thing.

This is a post about someone I lost very close to me HERE and this thread is about someone asking advice about what to do after crashing they're car. One is nothing like the other but they can exist on the same forum.

You seem to be getting the 2 a bit muddled up.

For Mick,

You are obviously not a proper ZX enthusiast!!, as I would not sell my Zed for a ferrari etc... And I'm not just driving it because I can't afford a Porsche/Ferrari etc either I can assure you as I could afford to buy one tommorow if desired!

You are right, there are far worse things in life than wrecking the car you love/cherish and put your heart and soul into keeping mint...but I'm sure you have no idea how distraught someone can get over that as you are not a proper enthusiast are you, just someone who uses a car to get from a to b, so I suggest you sod off and buy your Porshe, or whatever will make you happier and stop creating arguaments for the sake of it!!

I'm sure we can all go and buy a ferrari or a porsche if its 25 years old with no wheels.

Who are you kidding if I offered you a new Modena for your Z you would snatch my hand off.

Don't confuse giving an honest opinion with putting somebody down, the basis of free speech is being able to express an opinion and my comments about Z ownership being about speed and a nice looking car V price are valid and you all know that, if you think otherwise you are deluding yourself.

As for me to sod off and buy a Porsche, I had one briefly and it gave me far less problems than my bloody Nissans, the reason I bought another Z is I like the shape and this one came up fairly cheap.

I better go now because it's getting cold outside and my ZX needs it's scarf and hot water bottle before I tuck it up in bed.

I know I will get another few comments about my parentage but really don't bother because it just makes me laugh.

ffs mick - what is your problem

- this is a forum where people have friends, you sound like a 14 year old, chill out

i would like to think that if i had any sort of problem be it crashing a car or a personal bereavement i would get support on here.

Regards,

alex

I dont quite understand all the hostility, my initial post was to remind the original poster that he walked away from a crash, is insured and therfore there are greater things in life to worry about.

To criticise the mighty Z seems to be a sin like no other are you guys really that obsessed, maybe you are and I'm missing the point.

Anyway life is too short for any more of this crap so I wish you all safe motoring, a healthy family and goodbye

Mick

Well, Mick, it would seem that if you don't understand the hostility, then you also seem a bit lacking in the "intuition" stakes, surely?

What do you expect when a bloke makes a perfectly understandable appeal for a bit of sympathy/advice amongst like minded enthusiasts. I can't think of a better place to share something that we can all identify with. That's why this is a club, not just an information board, it takes a little camradarie and friendship. At least, that's the way most of the established members view it.

Sure, there are worse things in life; but, as you're so fond of saying "so what?".

Does Ben need reminding about it at that point in time, when he's upset about what's just happened, by some random geezer? NO! Does telling people that if they had more dough, they'd all buy European exotica, instead of their Zs, help in establishing a rapport on a dedicated internet community? NO! Is the best place to critisice the "mighty Z", an enthusiast's club for the 300zx? NO!

FFS .. don't understand the hostility? .. I do .. I'd have thought it pretty obvious, whatever your sanctimonious moral standpoint maybe .. honestly!

JB.

Well said that man

I agree with Pete on this one...

Trying to dig yourself out of the hole you made!!

I mean you've posted a hugh 12 posts... Most on this thread...

We all know that alot more could have happened and to be honest if it had this post would have been completely different, let me tell you.

Thanks everyone for your concern and any update I will post in a new thread. I should find out by the end of the week what the state of play is...

At the end of the day (I know, a terrible saying) I am glad no-one was hurt, I'm glad it was just me, I'm glad it is just a car damaged and life goes on.

I just want to enjoy it while I'm here and the Zed is a great mode of transport. PERIOD.

It was my treat and now that car I spent time choosing, picking out and driving is gone.

On a lighter note, I think everyone on this forum is fantastic and has really allowed me to express my feelings and pass on real assuring comments. Even if my Zed experience has ended for the time being I will still stay on the forum, as I would really like to meet up with some of you on here.

Many Thanks all...

Ben

P.S. Special thanks to Pete for bringing a smile to my face and letting me babble on last Thursday. I suppose I'll have to get the first :duffer: in when we meet up :D :D :D

all the best mate! hope it turns out not to be as bad as a write off! after having a similar experience on sunday im sure these cars are damn tough...im sure things will work themselves out, you obiousley love the car so things will turn out for the best.

To John Boy

Do u know what any of these words means "sanctimonious moral standpoint" or did you just read it from your wifes Jeffrey Archer novel.

If your going to have a go at me, please at least have some idea what you are saying as I was not being sanctimonious or had any moral agenda, I think the government run some classes if you have problems with english.

And yes I was critical of BOTH the whinger and the f***g cars

And by the way when are Spezer300 and Pete Shrimp getting married? I can supply a stretched ZX if thats any help

Well, thank you Mick for pointing out the error of my ways and my flagrant abuse of the English language. I really must book that remedial class, mustn't I?

I think you have just proven my point, however, with your childish reply. So perhaps, I ought to thank you again.

For your information ...

My wife, is in actual fact my fiancée, and doesn't read Jeffrey Archer. Not that has any relevance to the argument.

You asked the question about "why did I arouse hostility", I answered it. Why you needed to ask is beyond me.

The point is simple. In your original, and also pointless reply, you came across as a sanctimonious tosser. However, subsequent to this, you have proven yourself merely to be a tosser. Pure and simple.

Good night, Mick.

JB.

Well I haven't formally proposed to Pete yet still saving up for the wedding ring LMAO

I think my wife may have some objections to us getting married anyway!!

I suppose this comment is just proof of your mentality and true Zed ownership.

I could go into some comment about the lack of any moral fibre in your body as you really know how to make enemies!!!

I hope you have a further vocation in life than to come on to Forums and shout the odds at everyone!!

Goes back to the comment said by me and others on this forum..........

GET A LIFE

Calm it down a bit :)

Sorry about your car mate, happy you are ok. Know how you feel, was gutted when my MG was written off to the point of not eating for a week lol.

Don't let the bed bugs bite!!!

You boys do make me smile.

Sorry to hear about the bump ben, i hope it all gets sorted.

Rich

I really have had great fun today it's so easy to wind you ZX boys up, the way to deal with someone like me who is being a pain is a dignified silence so as not to give me any ammo to use but you lot kept going and I just couldnt resist.

I'm quite a decent bloke really, so I hope you will forgive me.

Have a good night and to be honest I would be pissed off if my Z got trashed.

Mick

Sorry Mick but i gotta say.........
