Right - swapped my TPS onto my mates car to prove fault - his is knackered (Pete Shrimp - I could do with buying your spare off you mate).

When I put my TPS back on my car I just adjusted it down to a tickover of about 800 while engine was running by moving it up and down - Is that all I have to do or do I have to do anything else like reset ECU?

However . . . .

This still hasnt cured his boost problem

On full throttle it sounds like a fluttering noise, could this be a diapraghm in one of the recirc valves not closing hence no boost build up.

On tickover Boost guage reads 0

Revving it drops the boost guage to -5(ish)

when going and boost kicks in it starts to climb to the +9psi, but no real power seems to be layed down.

If we cant suss this out I've tolfd him to take it down to Jeff at Zedworld.

Sounds like a leak somewhere if your gauge is reading 0 on idle, should be well negative.

Chack all the small vacuum hoses around the plenum. Maybe the EGR valve - I think that's a diaphram valve and prone to leaking - not sure how it normally fails though.

Cheers John, where the EGR valve located?

This was meant to be posted in help and advice - if one of the moderators would move it I'd be grateful

The EGR valve is at the back of the engine, in the middle just above the g/box. It's a bugger to get to, I think replacement is a g/box or plenum off job - not too sure because I've never tried it!

On stock turbo's at idle you should be looking at aboout -18 to -20 of vaccum. the closer to 0 the more of a boost leak you have and less boost you will get in general.

As for the TPS, setting this by idle speed is a bit of a :nono: , you will need to either use a conZult or multimeter to set it to about .40V - 0.42V

bugger

I knew I shouldnt have taken off my TPS

Where do I put my voltmeter on - which colour wire?

Is it one on the TPS?

Best way to find out what one to test id earth via the battery and then check for Volts each of the wires. the one you want should be between .3 and .6 volts. loosen the two 6mm bolts and turn the tps, if the voltage moves then thats the wire you want. 0.4 volts is your target, but if the engine revs too low, go to 0.42v ;)

You have a very big boost leak by the sound of it. Check the four big hoses at the front of the engine bay. I've had problems with these on several occassions and I've just replaced them all with shiny stuff from Smithy.
