Hi folk.

I've seen a 300zx for sale.

It's a japanes import, non-turbo, automatic, 35,000 miles.

It's 1999 (S-reg) and up for £11,500.

I'm tempted to get it but I'm worried as it's non-turbo.

Is non turbo much slower (especially automatic) than the twin turbo ?

Are any other parts different (ie suspension / brakes etc) ?

Could I turbo it later without having to change much else ?

Many thanks people

(ok, that's a joke; I'm not really Craig David, soul sensation)

For a start, if you're having ANY doubts as to whether you want turbo or non-turbo, walk away from it! You WILL regret it!

Secondly, I doubt you'll get much responce with a name like that - time to re-re-wind....

This may Help

LMFAO

bo selector:D

Is that the 99 spec one on autotrader? Looks bloody gorgeous but the power's not there :(;)

Aren't later zeds more expensive tho chip too? More complicated ECU IIRC

I know, I know.

I'm actually called Tim but that's not very funny.

I just like Bo Selecta.

Is it unusual a 1999 300ZX?

I always wanted one but am terrified of buying a ten year old car.

Where's Alex selling his NA Zed? I thought he'd be on this like a shot :D:D:D

I think after 1995 the ECU became 32bit and there where not many ECUs chips around for that.

If you have £11,000 to spend and you are not sure how if you want a NA or TT, trust the people on here when you they say you want a TT.

There quite a few people who where not sure get a NA or TT, got a NA and then wanted a TT.

There are people on here who have NA and are very happy with them, but they wanted a NA from the start.

For £11,000 you could get one imported into this country and it will be a VERY nice one for that money. :D

Stuart

Yeah you could have a mint TT for that, and with money left over for improvements and servicing.

Dont think we've got any 99 owners on here  Maybe the odd 95/96 but thats it.

thanks guys

Yes Pete, it's the one on autotrader; do you thin it's any good?

I guess I could get a turbo one but I can't bring myself to buy anything pre-98 and this is the only 300ZX I've ever seen registered after 1996.

I'd almost given up on the 300ZX altogether and was going to get an Accord type R. But i saw this one and thought it looked sweet.

Any idea what 0-60 time the NA manages?

And how easy would it be to turbo it later?

NAs only need 1 thing...NOS!

Got my 1991 import from the same garage. Possibly a bit overpriced, and the sales services outweighs the after-sales service!!:D (In my opinion!!!:D :D )

Not so keen when things started to go wrong. My "warranty" started getting alarming holes as to what it would and wouldn't cover.

Obviously a car 8 years younger will have less age related problems. Well worth a look if it's what your interested in. Company run by a guy called Ken. Located in Chipperfield near Watford and Hemel Hempstead. A bugger to find so if you need to get there let me know I'll post directions.

Good hunting,

Simon:)

Hi mate,

If it was my money, i would put an extra grand and buy Lack300's car (in the for sale section) , check out the pics in the rides section...VERY VERY nice car.

Roughly speaking UK official cars are 1990-1994

JDM are 1990-2000 (don't know if production stopped 1999 or 2000). These are the official RHD coutries (oh alright there's Aus, NZ, SA, and others but I don't think these were ever huge markets. Well, Australia's pretty huge but you know what I mean.)

UK was TT 2+2 only.

JDM had TT vs NA, 2str vs 2+2

So if it's LHD and post 1994/95 odds are it's a JDM.

But both TTs and NAs wer eavailable in Japan until the very end.

Sooooo if you MUST have a 1999 reg, your only option is a JDM car. Don't know if £11,500 would get you a TT but they are certainly available.

As has been said, if you are worried about power, just go for a TT (nothing wrong with the NA, mind, it just hasn't got the same power.)

Do a search for Topless here as he has just done an engine swap to put a TT into his previously-NA convertible.

But doing this on such a late model car can only reduce the value IMHO. And adding turbos to the NA engine is not practical.

So if you want a TT, buy one!

Well speaking as an owner of both N/A & TT, I love my N/A and use it daily, it's an Auto and to make it go fast you really have to drive hard, power mode, O/D off and keep up the rev's up. That said, its on the nippy side of fast as opposed to bloody ridiculous side of fast!! Don't buy it if you want to race Golf GTI's etc, you might just lose!!

As for the TT.... well wheel spins when already doing 70mph if you boot it, most scary, ludicrously fast thing I've ever experienced, seems twice as fast as the N/A!!!, Needless to say I leave this to the missus to avoid killing myself!

By the way, that car's been on Autotrader for months now!!! As he can't sell it I'd offer him £9,000 for it, you never know he might go for it! I bet he paid less than that to import it!

:D

That car does look really nice! Been wondering what mine will look like when I can aford to get its 99 front end and de-spoliered. Wish the photos on the dealer site were a bit bigger.

For what its worth, I love my NA - but then I haven't played in a TT yet...

nice one; thanks Paul

I might go and look at it at the weekend and i can't really afford £11.5K anyway. But knowing he's had it for sale for a while sure helps.

How many mpg do you get from your NA?

Cheers

Tim

Hmm... fuel consumption, well on the motorway, assuming no traffic jams it will do a good 30mpg sometimes slightly more..... but around town!! it does about 17-18 I think!! and I rarely boot it to be honest.

How this compares to the TT I don't know, we've not had it very long and it sits mainly in the garage, but if driven hard I dread to think!! I don't think they are much different to N/A's though unless you do drive them fast and stay in positive boost a lot of the time.
